I wasn't sure if I wanted to bump up to 189 from 179 for next year... after seeing this thread am i definitely sure.
You're basing all your "research" on park skiing, which doesn't even come close to encompassing every part of skiing.
1. We need long skis to be stable when going fast. This doesn't just count for racing, if you're ripping shit in pow you need a longer ski or you're going to be flopping everywhere and forced into the back skis.
2. We need poles because it helps us to put forward pressure on the boot, which helps you turn. Seriously, if you knew how to ski you would realize that it's about 1000 times harder to turn or ski trees without poles.
3. Yeah, the swing weight is relative to the length of the ski, but a shorter ski doesn't necessarily mean you can spin faster. I have 181's for park and I can whip 360's off the ground no problem, and I'm only about 5'9 and 150 pounds.
personaly i ride 175s and im 511, but i got a pair of 158 for teaching, the 58s are scechy as hell landing on cause the tail is so short.
i bet you would love short skis so you can rollerblade on snow... thats real cool.....................
On a second note, to the thread creator "you dont need to go that fast for park jumps" I have never gone faster in my life than hitting some park jumps.. Short skis are not the future.
