Bern Baker HARDHAT

I am quoting a previous statement from another member in another thread a while ago, so dont hold me accountable if this is wrong. He said the speed rating for a hard hat is like 13 mph, and the speed rating for an eps helmet is like 15 or 18 or something. That is basically the speed of the crash that the head-device will protect you, and anything over those speeds supposedly tosses the "helmet saved my life" theory out the window. Again, i only read this somewhere, so dont judge me. I still ride an EPS helmet, but in some crashes i guess nothing can protect you all the way. hope that helps maybe?

My understanding is that the Bern "hardhats" use a proprietary foam that is designed to take multiple hits and be tougher than their "helmets", but the foam they use has not been evaluated and tested by the CPSC, so therefore they can't legally advertise it as a safety helmet.

Aye, push your thumb into the foam of your 'hard-hat' and it will eventually spring back. Now go and find your bike helmet or one of the other kinds and do the same thingm the foam will stay in the shape of your thumb. its because they are made to take multiple hits and keep going, plus i've fallen headfirst with mine on multiple times and it hast af-f-f-fected me yet, so its all good.
