Ski poles: who actually pays for them?

well, the thread title is pretty self explanatory, so this one shouldn't be too hard.

Personally, I haven't paid for a pair of poles in about 8 years or so. Well, last year I had to throw $5 to this chick in rentals who didn't know me...

and to those of you who do pay for poles, how much are you spending, and what's the life expectancy of said poles? 'Cause I mean, I go through like 3 to 5 pairs a season. Why you'd drop $50/pair on something that will break on you in a month I have no idea.

i have some sick scott p4's i picked up at a ski swap new for 15 bucks, i got em a little short so that i wouldnt break them or land on em. have not bent yet :)

i just get them from my garage. there are a lot of old pairs i just use. and i go to any garage sale around me. pick some up for $5. then just paint them

ive gotten one pair two years ago, before that i just used my parents old poles, theyre a little bent but nothing broke yet, but i really only use poles in woods, etc. not really alot on groomed or park.

I try to get them from ski swaps and stuff like that for like 5 bucks or something, you get sweet old school poles for cheap and you aren't the d-bag who goes around stealing poles.

yea i just get colored duct tape and tape up all the crappy poles i can find in my basement and use those, all the poles i buy always break, but the old ones that i use last for ever so whatever

I paid for mine. I have had them for about 4 years. About indestructible. Scott somethings....lifetime warranty though. Not too worried.

i got polls last year that are composite, unbreakable then i cut them down even more so they are about a foot to a foot and a half tall .

i heart short unbreakable poles

im trying out no poles for a while and see how it goes.  its sick right now but im waiting for some real jumps in my park to see how those go.  but in previous years i just find old poles lying around my basement and cut them if they're too long.

we dont care if you just steal your shit, some people perfer to just buy there own poles, who cares. so many threads on this. poles or no poles, or any pole matter, who cares.

haha my uncle knows the owner of swix and he says the composite ones are made mostly of plastic and he's broken a whole bunch but he gets them free so its ok

I got 3 pairs of poles about the same length from a used sports store for 5$ each. I snapped 4 of them last year so I only have 1 pair of mismatches left.

i buy my poles for the most part. havent really broken more than one pair and that was 2 seasons ago. i got a friend that just pulls so broken ones out of the dumpster makes them equal length, ductapes them with colored tape, and puts on the nice white scott straps he has from his old poles....Its better than stealing.....

I always get free ones from lost and found if I need to.  I just tell them I lost/broke a pole and they always have something to give me.

I've had two pair stolen from  me (didnt see who) and just dropped $40 on some joysticks and If I ever see somone trying to jack them I will literally put them in the hospital ...

well usually the cheap ones that most people buy just to have poles are made of aluminum or something and are easy to bend, by hand, by landing on it, whatever

i get the better ones, ive gotten goode's for a few years now

killington had goode's for rentals and my bro worked there, so he took 3 or four when they were going to throw them all because the "endless adventures" logo needed to be updated to whatever it is now. he has all mountian and park poles.. ive got custom poles

word, I buy quality race poles and I havent broken a pair yet. The ones designed for slalom have hitting gates in mind so they are usually really strong

at my mountain, all the not -so-hot ski poles at rentals are put in a kinda bin thing. i just go through that and re-bend em. the rental people want em gone anyway

4 seasons ago my mom got me sick scott composite poles, couldnt break them. they were sick.

then someone took them.

so I either use rental poles or poles i find in the trash.

the reason you break 4-5 pairs of poles a year is because you take the shitty ones made from bad metal, the scott ones that cost $50 are sick because you will have them for 10 years and you are not stealing which is just freaking bad, i dont care how much of a bad ass you think you are stealing shit is not cool.

Poles Really Suck sometimes I Bent mine my second day with them i was PISSED. I just bent 'em back though. I try not to use them in the park and on the groomers unless there is fresh snow. cuz then i need help getting around   =D
