Mad River Park

The park is soooo hot right now!!! I believe its only going to get better with events coming up, and the determination of the park crew. They take such good care of the rails and jumps. It seems as though theyre walking around every other run, raking the take offs and landings. If you havent been out to MRM Park this season, come out, its banger!!!

Forgot to mention:

Unlike any other park in Ohio - you can hit multiple rails, and jumps in one run. Most resorts in Ohio, you have to either choose rails only, a single jump, or 3 at most. For example, last year, you could hit 3 jumps & 4 rails in one run @ MRM. As the park is set up right now, you can hit 2 rails, a jump, followed by 4 rails. I  bet once they get the park where they want it, you'll be able to hit 3 nice jumps, followed by 4 or 5 rails, or 7 rails and a jump, or just 8 rails. Nowhere else in Ohio can this be done.

Me and some friends from perfects went down there for the louie vito rail jam, and it will definitely be the last time i go there. i figured they would have put time and effort into the park that was outside of where the jam was, but looked like the whole hill hasn't been groomed in atleast 2 days, and most the lips were barely off of the ground, with rails that wobbled in the snow. and there was one kicker for the kink rail that was in the jam that was maybe a couple feet wide. aside from the park, their attitudes towards us was just stupid. even the park manager was talking shit about being from perfects, to me, thats not very professional. I know that judging is something that will never be perfect, but the only people who placed were boarders who were from MRM, even when my friend who skis absolultely killed it. We tried to bring in a good vibe and tried to get people pumped, but aside from a few people that were stoked, it seemed pretty negative. I guess im kinda stooping down to their level with this post, but felt it needed to be said. and i will say we did meet a few cool people down there. im done ranting. peace

dude we have had over 2 inches of rain the last few days and it was 64 degress last night.. i was in the park last night too and yes it was below average for sure but you cant just groom over ice... it doesnt work like that.. they spent 2 days straight to at least have the set up they did for the rail jam which was pretty sick for the conditions. the comp was originally for all boraders so therefore the judges werent even expecting skiers to be in it so sorry if your buddy was poorly judged

i went up there last night as well and i agree that the park sucked but rightfully so dude. if you went there expecting anymore than that, you're out of your mind  cuz its been so warm and rainy were lucky to have what they had last night. dont let last night give you that shitty impression. if i were you id make another trip up later in the year.

well to get rid of ice you have to groom or make snow and since they couldnt make snow they should have groomed i have never been to MRM because everytime someone goes they hate it say it sucks and has aids also there jumps are shitty like boarder cross jumps basically this is what i hear and i will never go to MRM

anyhow i was sayin to him that MRM was not on top of their game this week especially for the rail jam. Its true MRM s park scene and managment isoverseen to the liking of the technine wearing boarders. Everyone else has no respect or voice about our park included some of ASBco's boarders, not to mention skiers are treated as if they dont exist.

Normally the park is winded around boarders who ride rails rails and more rails. we havent had a decent 30+ jump since this time last year. Also most of our features were decommisioned due to the fact of abnormal weather and the attention to louie vito midget ass.

So for eveyone shitting on MRM. i'll tell you this: I believe that we have a consistant park year round with lots of features, especially this year. and if you wanna slay rails, theres no place else. However, jumps and the skiing scene are a whole other question

Ill have to completely disagree with you on the above comment. Given the cycle of weather we just went through, including 2 major rail jams in one month, I believe that MRM is doing a pretty damn good job. Its a pretty safe bet that most resorts are not going to put cats on the hill with warm weather and limited amounts of snow. With the rail jams out of the way and cold weather in the near future, Id give MRM a couple weeks until there park is back to prime. Id definitely give MRM another chance, say sometime late Feb/early March.

no i wasn't in the tj coat, im the guy with the suspenders if that helps. but yea i agree the weather really shitted on the jam's potential. and i did see some sick rails on the side of the runs. all the skiers that i talked to were cool people for sure, but other than that we definitely didn't get any respect, even from some people in the crowd. ha i think they took how we wore our park crew jerseys the wrong way tho,

I highly doubt that setup took 2 days. The rails were barley sticking in the snow (one actually came out) the lips were 2 feet wide at most and there were only 4 rails. There is no way it took 2 whole days of work. I will say tho that the wall ride was kinda cool as well as the up box at the end. Although it was hard to get speed because the judges were in the way.

That being said. You cant put any blame for such a bad park on the weather. It was nice out that whole day. Its not that hard to push up a little snow for at least a decent lip onto a rail or box. Perfects has gotten that same weather if not worse. Our park, although it has lost snow, has had all the features open as well as well made, and maintained lips.

Also if you are putting on a rail jam you would think you would hurry and bust ass to get your place lookin nice for the non locals. And YES i do know stuff in the park can take much more time than most think, I work park crew. But MRM could have definitely stepped it up.

I went hoping to have a fun time after hearing all the great things about it on here. But hate and worse park conditions left me super bummed.

To those who are hating on MRM and complaining about the hate they got from the crowd... did ever stop to think that this was louie vito's rail jam.... it was inteded for boarders only.. you were an interloper... what else can you expect but a set-up and a crowd for boarders? if you were expecting more maybe you should have looked into the competition more....

i went up to mad river today and it was sick... it was a completly differnt place today they had 4 nice jumps up where they only one before and all of the rails/boxes were set up nicely... sorry you perfect guys didnt get what you expected but you should come check it out later on in the winter if you get a chance

how big are the jumps? has it been icy?

i will be there a couple of weekends from now. im an east coaster/then west coaster/now back to east coaster who converts to midwestern when i come visit the gf in columbus.

so im lookin for big jumps! +k for pic links

Went there yesterday and they had a much better park than I was expecting because weather has been shitty lately.  For jumps they had a step up by itself and then there was a jumpline with 4 tables that were not huge but at least it was something.  The only problem was yesterday when I went it was so slushy and the wind was pretty bad it was pretty much impossible to get enough speed for the 2 biggest jumps which one was a step up by itself and the other was in the jump line.  But they did have a good selection of rails and boxes still up.  Its only like 45 min away from cbus so its well worth the trip.

MRM has always been known for its jibs rather than jumps. To whoever said they want big jumps, you are prob not gonna have any luck finding them at MRM. they do however have some cool jibs if they ever get them setup.

To whoever said that us Perfect Northers should come back later. Why? Yes the park was bad when we were there, but we got hated on soooo much. And not just by the locals, the PARK MANAGER himself hated on us. Yea that will really want to make us come back. Idk maybe its just me, but our park manager is always helping out non-locals, talking to them and see how everything is going and generally treating people, skiers and snowboards with mass respect.

Oh, and one last thing. Perfect North Slopes is having the Richie Fahey Open this weds. Rich Fahey is a skier. Now I know he isnt as big as louie vito, but Im sure many of you know who he is. If not I know you know a little group of people he shreds with, 4bi9. But guess what!?!?!?!?! The RFO is going to have a snowboarding and skiing event. With not just skier judges, but also boarder judges. So please dont give me this bullshit that a jam was named after a snowboarder so skiers cant be in it. This is a prime reason why our two sports still have hate between eachother.

dude the park manager is cool as hell and has a sense of humor.. he probably saw your pns park crew  jerseys and was just messing around... he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet so im sure he wasnt "hating" on you guys... and i was just sayin to come check it out later on because it doesnt sound like you guys had a good experience and i thought maybe you could just come back and have some fun but its whatever

not only did he talk shit to us, but also to a couple of our local snowboarders that rode in the comp.

Both times talking shit on our home hill.



Even if he was joking, thats not what a manager should be doing. He should have been out fixing his god awful park when the biggest snowboarder from his hill was in town for a major comp.

Two local Perfect North boarders were talking to your PM.

He asked where they were from and they said Perfect North.
Your PM then said he was sorry to hear that.
Our boarders asking why, your PM simply said that it looked lame.

One of our park crew members (one of the only skiers there that was absolutely killing it) also started talking to your PM.

Your PM laughed at our skier, and just said that that sucked he was from Perfect North.



Yea, he is real professional. maybe next time he comes to Perfect North he will actually ride our park and talk to our staff, most notably our Park Manager. Maybe then he will know how to actually run a legit park.

 I went to mad river three years ago for a weekend and holy hell it was awful. The rails were terribly set up, (crooked, falling out, bad lips, etc.) the jumps were non existent, ( 3 10-15 foot hits that you could barely 3) and they attitude was fucking terrible. Someone who was associated with mad river, ( park ranger? park manager?) was out kinda working on some lips, mostly just talking to a bunch of boarders. Well there was about 15 boarders just sitting on the side of one of the rails, and as we were hitting the rails, the park associate decided that he was going to throw snowballs at us skiers. He then got all the rest of the boarders to do it too.. thats pretty immature for someone who is supposed to represent MRM.

Another thing, as we were skiing down the hills there were snowballs thrown at us constantly from boarders. Im pretty sure they had no idea we were from perfect north, because we didnt talk to anyone. They were just hating because of their park ranger.

Needless to say that flat hate filled hill never received any more visits from us.

Minus Terman's post, I've never really heard anything good about Mad River. It was always the MWX stop that I skipped since your 3 best scores counted. Since we got an apology and an invitation to come back and experience it later, perhaps we'll take it up and see. Basically, I'd be going in with the lowest of expectations.

Anyways, I got a e-mail from MRM's general manager about all the happenings we had at MRM. I just wanted to say I have a lot more respect for them. Or at least the GM.

I also just wanted to state that I was not hating on the on park so much as the way we were treated by the PM. I'm sure the park gets sick later on. They at least had some cool jibs on the sides of the run. So once they get snow I'm sure it will be fun.

Yeah man the GM is a super nice guy, he even let us hit the new jumps a couple of times before they opened yesterday (btw the new jumps were pretty sick and well shaped but i hope weather doesnt ruin them).  I have never recieved any hate there but thats pretty disappointing hearing those things about the park crew.

The jump line is pretty legit. Nowhere else in ohio can you hit 4 jumps in a row. 

Id say theyre 5', 7-10', 10-15', 20-25'. Definitely a lot of fun.

Theyre good. Not too steep and definitely not flat.

The jumps are some of the best MRM has had. Not to mention the 25' jump in the upper park.
