Hey as of right now WP should have the bowl open and the Cirque too. But the best thing is the changes in the parks. Intrawest took over the resort late last season. They run Mammoth, Copper, Whistler. So you can guess that the parks here will be getting a major upgrade. It might take a season or two, but we are on the way up in the park department. Plus they spent almost $7 million this summer. But Im sure youll see when you get out here that Winter Park will be a newschool area in the future.

uhh. ive been there. it was my one and only ski trip anywhere out of the midwest. dont get me wrong, thought the skiing was like YAY! but the park was complete bust. except for some of the rails.

yah wp got copper's left over rails from last season. money means shit if they can't set things up right.
the cirque is a lot of fun but about a mile hike back to it. sometimes they have a patroller running a snowmobile and they'll give you a tow. the cirque's not very long and the run out is this flat little trail through the woods. if there's pow though that's the place to go at wp.

the thing is you cant compare wp to copper or breck there chutes and bowls are bigger and steeper and lift accsessed the cirque is a fuckin rip some of the chutes are steep but they are to short stick with summit if you do go to wp go to hole in the wall it steeper then the cirque

when you're at the park be sure to visit mary jane. It's the only cool part of that mountain otherwise hit up breck.

winter park has great all around terrain... good woods stuff i love the trees, not a lot of techincality but fun to ski. pretty big resort hard to ski it all in one day... mary jane is tight.. i suggest it (WP) i live in the east and i went there 2 years in a row... then i found out about a little place called UTAH. peace

WP is the shit. It's a great place to ski unless its crowded, then expect lift lines of about 30 minutes, but usually thats only on WP. If you here to taste a little bit of Colo then go to Vail, you can't beat it.

Winter Park is a great place!! Even on busy day's it's still less crowded than a lot of the other resorts in CO. I agree the Cirque is over rated (too much of a hike and out run for the short amount of terrain.) Hole in the Wall is great, especially with new snow, but it is fairly short. The trees are awesome and the BC stuff out the Hwy 40 access gate is incredible too! The park and pipe wasn't huge last year, but it was fun, and with intrawest redesigning it, it can only get better. If you're into bumps, stay on the Jane side (best bumps in the country!)
You mentioned that you're looking for powder and you'll be out there in the end of Dec....you're probably not going to find a lot of it (unless we get a some kind of storm) cause it's still so early in the season.
I love the place! It's fun, not very crowded, relitivly inexpensive, and you get a wide variety of terrain.

I hear breck and Copper are the place to be.
I hear Vail sucks, its to crowded and theres a bunch rich a$$holes there.

Vail is so big you don't notice the crowds, sometimes parking can be a problems but hey which resorts now a days don't.
Breck's alright if your just looking to ski the park. It doesn't have nearly the terrain Vail has and Copper is somewhere in the middle, my 2 favorites are Winter Park and Vail but hey thats just my 2 cents.

It's a fun place, the Cirque is kind of cool, but it's not my favorite. Definitely a fun time though, maybe more beginner/intermediate oriented? Aside from Mary Jane, that is...

Yo dude...Hole In The Wall is on the back side of Mary Jane. It's generally only open from about 10-2.
FYI: slow down when you're typing...it'll make for more understandable sentences.

My 2 cents. WP and Mary Jane has the steepest lift accessable runs in Colorado. Believe me. Not all of the best trails at WP/MJ/Vasquez/cirque are located on the trail map. If you smoke a local they'll probably be kind enough to point you in the right direction. Oh,plus 4 new huts went up in the summer making a grand total of over 40+. Happy huting my friends.

I love Winter Park. They have alot of great trees and fun drops in the woods and shizzle. The chutes on MJ are great if you catch them on a day with new snow. Otherwise, they will be crusty and icy. Someone up ther was saying that right now the Cirque is opne, and that's bull, but thay hae around 35 runs open already. They're having a good few weeks in November. I'm goin up on Friday. I went last weekend, but it was too damn bitch-ass friged cold to have much fun. But its not usually like that.
By the way, on this site, I've heard alot about the access gate for the highway. What's the deal with that? I had never heard of it? Is it good stuff? How far does it take you from the base?

Ok...let me rephrase....Winter Park (the WP mountain) may have longer lift lines.....as long as you stay away from the Zepher...you shouldn't be waiting very long. Eskimo, and Prospector lines get longer during the busy season (ie Christmas, and Spring Break,) but other than that, the lift lines aren't that long.

PhSyKiC_SkIeR! I agree! The Mary Jane mountain is deffinately better!! By Far!! The name of the resort is Winter Park Resort...so saying 'winter park' doesn't necessarily mean we're talking specifically about the winter park portion of the resort....it just encompases the whole area...(winter park, Mary Jane, Vasqess, Parsenn, & the Cirque)
...sorry, if that sounds a little confusing. It's late, and I'm tired.

hows that bowl rgioht over mary jane is it good for building a powder booter? where is the best place to build one?

Parsenn gets a little wind blown....if you catch it on a good dump, skiers right (all the way along Primrose) ....there's a good place to build one, about half way down before you hit the tree line. There's a place where the terrain levels off a little, and then drops again. That's where I usually see them. It privides a steeper landing too.

the only problem is that when you build the jump 9 times out of 10 a ski patrol will come along and tell you to destroy it and keep skiing. it sucks
