PTEX question

not a shop guy but my P-Tex works. Take a razor and shave any P-Tex thats sticking out around the core shot. Then, sand the core shot with sandpaper. Also, don't use the first P-Tex drips, wait til it gets alot hotter and is basically a steady stream of wax. But yea, the sanding is key.

I found holding the ptex candle close to the base helps keeping the ptex from chipping. Works better than letting ptex drip from a distance. Not sure why.

hmm, could work better, maybe it's hotter when it hits the ski? good idea. Just make sure you don't just touch the candle itself to the ski.

You could consider Toko Base Repair powder if you have a decent iron

Depending on the size of the coreshot, you could also look at putting some epoxy in there first and make sure you have cleaned the area out well, and cross hatch it a little

the 1st time i repaired it i out some epoxy in there first and that cracked an came out too... i suppose i need to rough it up a little more, gracias

If you have a  core shot definetly dont use ptex take it to a shop were they will do a base weld. A base weld is made from a different,harder, stronger material that grips to the core unlike ptex, which bonds to regular scratches because of the pores in ski base. No ski base = no bondage. Roughing up the surface with sand paper is a good idea but that tends to still only work on base welds when u need to fix a core shot. Holding ptex close to the ski does infact help strengthen the bond. When u have ptex lit u want to keep the flame blue at all times, when it is not blue it begins to build up carbon in the ptex which creates a brittle bond hence the cracking of ptex on skis. Another thing that helps eliminate carbon is lighting the ptex with a propane torch that has a small blue flame.

wow thanks for all the info, the shot is on my early season/urban skis so its not worth it to take them to a shop, i will try all these suggestions from everyone though, i appreciate it guys

You definitly need a base weld. Any decent shop should be able to it. Bring the guys a 6-pack and they will hook you up. At least I know I would.
