i have been skiing my whole life and freeskiing for the past couple of years. over the course of that time my shoulders have gotten so fucked up from chronic dislocations (on a daily occurrence i dislocate both left and right shoulders). It has gotten so bad that it has had a major impact on my everday life. The pain is excruciating and if i fuck up the work done in surgery thats 6 months of my life down the drain. the question now is should i give up freestyle skiing in an attempt to raise my quality of life in the years to come?
i had surgery on my right shoulder and its awsome now it feels great and was deffenetly worth it. my issue is the liebrum which was torn anterior and posterior. my left shoulder... well i don't even think i have a liebrum anymore. when i sleep in the wrong position it will pop out in my sleep
sometimes i get the same feeling now that i had one knee sugery and it has a slight pain all the time even though it no longer affects my performence. i picked up photography. atleast this way when i decide enough is enough i can still follow my friends and be with them, helping me ease the thought of not being able to keep up with them...
This happened to a friend of mine who snowboarded pipe, had surgery on it twice and if it got screwed up again it was going to be beyond repair, I'd say try and find another way to stay involved. Like people said, filming and photography keeps you around it but still 'safe'
