Advice about cars

Alright, so I am buying a new car so that I can ski more often. But I am left between 2 equally good cars I need your help to help me decide on a car.
Chevrolet Cobalt 2008
-18,000$
-2 free payments of 339$
-more automations such as locking mechanism and windows
-10,000km cause its a demo

Mazda 3 sport GX 2009
-20,000$
-4 winter tires included

So please help me...

i would get the mazda. although ive never driven one, i have driven a cobalt and i cant imagine anything would be much worse

im gonna assume its a base cobalt? 4 or 2 doors? and a base/lower model mazda 3?

now if its between a cobalt ss and a mazda speed 3, id go cobalt, its quicker and better handeling.

but between a mazda hatch adn base/4door cobalt, id go mazda, way better looking, lots nicer, and looks sickkk.

Both are 4 doors, both automatic. The cobalt is a higher model and the mazda is more of a base car...

Although I love chevy's I would go with the Mazda. I've never heard anything good about cobalts and more automatic mechanisms aren't always a good thing. Cobalts aren't the most practical cars, especially for something like skiing.

I live in eastern canada, manual is pretty impractical because of the numerous mountains

Honestly, for 20 000$, you can buy a used car that absolutely destroys a mazda 3 or cobalt (which is probably one of the worst put together cars out there)....

If you want a car for skiing, look into an european or japanese AWD car. Buy one that's a few years old. Why would you take such a big loss on depreciation when someone else can take it for you, and you get twice the car for your money.

Actually man, standard KILLS it in the mountains. Being able to control the exactness of your power and engine rate is amazing, especially in snow (gearing down for hills, optimal mileage, no slipping out etc). Know your shit!

I explored that option already, I need a car that can travel long distances...I am talking 1200 km one way, plus I wanna go to BC with it. The last thing I want is a car that craps out half way there.

Haha...a subaru that's only a couple years old will last you more than long enough for what you need honestly. Plus you get the four wheel drive which by you're previous statements would be pretty important in climbing mountains and such. They're great cars andyou can't go wrong...unless you're dead set on getting a new car just cuz it's new.

I know. I'm talking even a two year old car. For 20G's, you can have audi, bmw, subaru, VW, infiniti, nissan, volvo....anything along those lines.. like an 05' with 20 000 miles on it. They won't crap out any more than a cobalt will. Why wouldn't you go for that? Buying a brand new car is probably the worst investment you can make.

Again, if you've already determined that you don't want to do that, then it's all good. But for skiing you can buy a quality car that's not some base level econobox that will last much longer, perform better, and be safer too. Just my two cents.

if youre dead set on either the cobalt or the mazda, than then mazda, hands down, especially if its a hatch(or wagon, same difference)

but if i were you id look for awd or fwd, 1-2 years old, itll still have warentee on it, and will not have any problems for the time you own it, adn if it does, you have a warentee.

and the higger cobalt is shittier than a lower mazda imo.

if i were you, id look for an impreza wagon, its way nicer than either of the 2 you have listed, adn can be found for cheaper, or something similar to that.

Having driven both I highly recommend the Mazda over the cobalt.  Reasons

Quality of build higher- interior much nicer, things in handy places
Decent Power vs gas milage
personally think it looks better
comfortable ride, not super soft not killer hard decent family mobile
more comfortable back seats for road trips

the only benefits i see with the cobalt are with the SS and I still don't really like that car that much, its fast ish but not thaaat fast and still feels cheap and i didnt have confidence in it, i much prefered my car which despite being 10 years older had higher quality build feel and is waay faster (but i tweaked the shit out of it soooo)

dude just get a slightly used subaru wrx, its a way better car then both of those and much better in snow.  in my opinion both of those are dumb decisions, you could even get a used speed3 for that price which is wayyy better then the regular.

Def take the Mazda 3 over the Cobalt

Unless its between the Mazda Speed 3 and the Cobalt Turbo SS, in which case take the Chevy.

But seriously get the Mazda 3 you will be wayyyyyy more happy with it.  Drives better, little faster i'm pretty sure, nicer interior, looks better, GM will go out of buisness before Ford, and the Mazda 3 is based on the europeon Ford Focus frame, which is really nice.

well if you do your research and get the used car properly insepected and all than you probably wont have to much of a problem i bought a honda accord for 12g's a few years back and it has taken me across canada and to the mountains numerous time and i havent even had a problem and it came fully loaded with all sorts a shit for 20000 and the right research you could find a sick car

The only logical reason to not get a standard car is if you're always in the city in a traffic jam. I cross the peace bridge in NY alot in the summer, and standard stop and go for an hour on a bridge while rolling backwards is a bitch on the knees.

Get the Mazda 3. Much more reliable, much more fun, looks better. and Mazda's clutches are prime, light as all fuck. And without auto you should be able to save a grand or so.

Double post here. But there's a ton more options out there for cars under 20K man. Alot BETTER cars too. If you need almost brand new, look in the paper, classified section. There's always adds for car dealerships with ridiculous deals. If you want to look at used (which I recommend, look around I picked up a prime 03 GTI 1.8T with 50Kmiles, ~85000kilos for $10500) , autorader.ca , or craigslist.

Seriously, that's spot on. Buying a new car nowadays is a luxury, not a good investment. For 20g's you can get a very very nice car.

I picked up my WRX in great condition for 16g's. For 4g more I could have had almost anything. Definitely don't limit yourself to those two cars. Find a nice awd (suby, audi, volvo, something) european or japanese and you won't be disappointed.
