So, boys and girls. First of all I cannot explain how pissed off I am right now.
These are my babies. Skied like 8 days total. Yesterday was my first day on these bindings,
I'm guessing the new mount is the cause of this.

Here's what i'm wondering.
If i take these back to the shop where i had them mounted will the guys there try to tell me its
my fault because i gave them the bindings and hardware to have them mounted with
and the screws were too long?
Will they give me new skis?

BTW. They are 06/07 Salomon Foils 166. I bought them new at the end of last season.
They had like 5 days on them with the old bindings, then i brought them to the shop last week
to have them mounted up with some S912ti's. Then i went skiing for the first time this season
and i just noticed this tonight. What do you guys think?

ouch man, that deff looks like the screws were too long...

that shouldn't be your fault though, the shop should know how long a screw needs to be for the ski.... take them back and ask for new skis as the tech made yours near unskiable( or might be soon)

I'm gonna be like ok i want new skis. and they'll be like we'll replace the value of these, and since they're like 2 years old they're value is like not close to enough to get a new pair of skis. So what do you guys htink is fair? For them to replace the "value" or for them to buy me new skis? I just think they'll be gay about it and say they'll pay like 200 towards a new pair. Where in this case they ruined a new pair of skis. Should they replace the value of the skis or buy me a new pair?

You are partly to blame for giving them the setup but they still should have checked. I've seen way worse fixed perfectly and ridden hard. Don't expect new skis and don't be a dick to them unless you plan on never shopping there again.

what if you go in there, and not act like a complete asshole like everyone is tellin you to do.. that way you will get treated better, will most likely get better results and they wont treat you like an asshole if you ever go back in there. and why did you need new bindings after 6 days? why didnt you jst put these on in the first place

yep, they should always check the screw length and while they're drilling them in they should do it slow and see if they start to poke through
you should've told them about the screw length or realized it but they still fucked up and should replace your skis

Tell them to buy you new skis happened to my friends 08 libtechs and he ended up with 09's hopefully your shop realizes their mistake

So the dude is totally chill and he's like ok this is not a problem we can just take the screws out, grind them down a bit, then put em back in. And we can also just do some hot gun magic to get rid of the dimples. And he says the reason that the screws were too long was because i bought the bindings online (newschoolers) and that you should NEVER buy ANYTHING online because you dont know what your gonna get. What i dont get is that the bindings were brand new, so this guy at the shop was implying that the NSer that i aught these off of switched the rear screws out for longer ones.

So i havent told them to do anything yet. Just kinda chillin right now

Your seller might have given you them without lifters or with the wrong screws or whatever. Yeah like I said I've seen way worse fixed perfectly, let them take care of it.

that happened to my chronic blends last year- they just got drilled through the bottom. all the manager did was ask where i bought them (he wasnt too happy when i said online) and ended up switching them for a new pair. it was relatively painless, but took a bit longer than i would have expected.

i work at a ski shop and we would def replace them, fixing them will work but it will compromise the integrity of the ski blah blah, im sure they will  be fine, but if u demanded new ones you prolly would have got em.

btw when a shop buys u skis the pay like 150-200 bucks for em anyways cuz of wholesale

it seems like he didnt use a jig...that salomon binding shouldnt go thru the bases...did you have the lifters? if not then thats why. but the shop should realize that

I talked to the guy i got them from. They were all the original screws, there were no lifters. He said that the dude at the shop probably didnt drill deep enough holes for the screws which then caused the screws to push through the bottom of the ski, making a dimple in the base

well you should always check the screw length, i've sold fks before and only had long screws to put in them
i've notified the buyer and told them to get shorter screws or grind them down and it all works out fine but if you buy something on ns or tgr or something you should always check out everything

if i had only known. I think it's still a pretty dumbass move on the tech's part not to check the length of the screw before screwing them in. And then once they were in not noticing before he gave them back to me.

I've seen this same exact thing happen at the first shop that I worked at:  this was at the time in my life when I had legally mounted about 10 pairs of bindings in my life (not intergrated but flat mounted)  It was at the end of the day where we would start cleaning the wintersteiger machine and there was one last mount to do which was a friend of mine.  Since the owner of the shop (who always loved to be in charge no matter what) didn't know how to properly clean our new machine he had me start cleaning the machine while he mounted the last pair of bindings.  It was suppose to be a pair of s912's onto a set k2's enemy's (the first version of enemy's that were black and red)  he put 4 screws right through the skis when drilling in one of the toe pieces because he forgot to put the lifters in between the binding and ski  4SCREWS, IN A ROW, STRAIGHT THROUGH! haha i never laughed so hard.  so i texted my friend and told him to come in wanting a brand new pair of skis. The next day he came in and got a brand new pair of fujatives mounted correctly with the bindings he purchased with a fresh tune and wax.


cliffnotes:  shop screwed up and my friend got new skis that were roughly worth the MSRP as his old ones.

you ALWAYS check the screw length before drilling, its just fucking dumb not to.

techs fault, make the shop replace them. integrity of the ski is compromised when the screw pulls through the base. light dimpling? no big deal. all the way through? that needs a weld, and thats a shitty hole to have through your core.

Once upon a time I was a shop tech and I did this to someone's skis. I felt TERRIBLE. But the only reason that it happened was that they gave me bindings that were mounted on riser plates, with long screws and when they brought the bindings in they didn't bring in the risers. So if I was doing everything by the book I would have looked and seen that the screws were too long, it was a stupid mistake on my part, I was mounting like 15 pairs of skis that day.. but he kind of set himself up for disaster with a move like that. Either way, I know I would be furious if someone did that to my skis. Long story short, I handed them over to our lead shop guy and he was able to work some magic and fix the dimples in the bases. If they can't fix them to the point that you can't tell at all then I would demand new skis.

This is how its goin down. The dude at the shop backed out the screws, put in new shorter ones, and did some magic on the dimples and walaa, they're gone. He also said i could get 3 free tunes a year (not that i really wanna go back to this shop) and if the ski did ever start falling apart (because of the dimple problem) they would compensate. So i didn't get a new pair of skis, but this dude claims my babies are as good as new. So that works for me

I think the shop did what they should have.  I wouldn't be mad at them, but I probably wouldn't bring bindings there to be mounted unless you buy them there or you are 100% sure they are legit.

Haha that's real shitty.  Pretty obvious that the binding you gave them needs a riser.  As a tech I'd say if the binding is new out of the box, i generally don't bother checking screw length.   But  a pair of used bindings that a customer brings in a bag, usually I do.

It really wont effect the ski much if they heat it up, bang in the dimples with a hammer, and give them a base grind.  They should be just fine.  On a normal mount the holes are getting pretty close to the base material anyways.  Its not like there is a metal sheet on Foils, and they are built with that monocouqe(sp?), spaceframe, where the structural inegrity of the ski is in the cap.

 I'd say let them fix it properly and give you a big discount on a new piece of gear or a free pair of goggles or something.

From what my NS seller is telling me he got them from his shop and shipped them straight to me with everything that was included. Which is original screws and NO lifter. So this means either my seller is lying to me or the dude tat the shop screwed up big time. And my seller also claims that the crews were all of the correct ones and stuff, and the dude seems pretty legit, he's a tech himself

bahaha this is what my local shop guy tried to tell me when i asked them to bend my brakes out for me, he gave me this lecture on how i should do some research before i buy stuff online, and i was like "it's not really a big deal to bend brakes, i'll do it myself" but they ended up doing it anyways

Thats pretty ignorant of a professional. I am slowly being convinced of doing all ski related work on my own and not to trust these techies. I already started waxing my own skis, although mounting is a whole different story.
