ya so i just went to my local shop and had em mount my bindings, left em ther tho cuz i didnt wanna wait. I had some px12 jibs and i told the guy they came with risers but didnt want em on ther. and he said i had to, i thot you could just use shorter screws or have em grind the screws down. I told him that but Idk if i just sounded retarded or wat.

ya thats what i thot..you'd think my shop was brain dead when it came to ski stuff..and there are no freeskiiers hardly at all..so they know nothing when it comes to that to. Startin to get more people tho, I think ive helped the sport grow at my hill..but ya..oh wellll..looks like ill have to cope with the risers.

this conversation has always stuck in my head

i was looking at skis at my local shop and one of the guys started talking to me about pollard(circa first gen elizabeths)

him- have you seen eric pollard's new ski called the elizabeths?! they are so fat and stiff as a 2x4 and can charge anything.
me- i think they are his park ski and they are very soft?
him-HES THE MAN!!! HE CAN DO ANYTHING HE WANTS!!

in all honestly, i thank newschoolers for a lot of what i know. its made my life so much easier, because if you listened to the reps the whole time, ud be talking the same way, they all tout their product as the best out there, because they have to sell it

Ya word, especailly for info about products that is unbiased.
Sometimes you have to sift through some BS but all in all the gear talk is pretty decent.

To be perfectly honest, isn't it partly a liability issue?  If a shop messes with the bindings, they're opening themselves up (or at least making a weak point) for a lawsuit from some gaper, although I doubt you're an asshole gaper.  They can't assume that though.

well here are some of the things I have been told by shop guys:
fks brakes can't be bent.
anthems are stiff pow skis.
griffons replaced the jesters
your skis are too long

word, last year had i listened to the rep i got my walls/jesters from, he would have set me up with walls and dukes, but thankfully dukes w ere sold out. btw i didnt know dukes were touring binding at the time. just thoguht they were like cooler jesters or something.

That is some fucked up shit.  you would have gotten some weird looks, at least for the first few runs, then you would probably land switch, double eject and the bindings would explode an the skis would be ripped apart.

Ok I exaggerated sort of.

There is no excuse for what happened, but to those talking about the lack of product knowledge some shop guys have - Everyone needs to remember that twin tip skis are NOT the biggest market for the standard retail shop!

In our shop, for instance - carve skis, all mountain skis, even race skis always dominated ski sales.. More recently we have seen pow and park skis take off but ultimately there is a lot for shop guys to remember when we are talking about over 50 different skis that could be stocked.
Doesn't mean shop dudes should make up rubbish to try and sounds like they know what they are talking about (obviously that backfires when someone knowledgeable is on the receiving end like in this case)

Sure, because of NS i would know more than anyone else in my shop about twintip skiproduct tech, but really, i wonder how many of the members on this site have the faintest clue on the technical aspects of the rest of the ski market?
The rest of the ski market is the most important as far as shops are concerned, because that is where most of the revenue comes from

haha it probs woulda happened.

on a side note, one of my bosses is a volkl.technica.marer rep, and is very high( national team for instructing) on the instructing food chain. and he has some volkl directional twins with dukes, like multiple pairs, with dukes, all carving skis. and were on the east coast. just seems like a waste of good product, on someone who dosent need it for what hes doing. no hate on teh guy casue hes chill as fuck, but i think he dosent know what tehy are meant for.

Maybe they told you they couldn't mount your binding like that because they didn't have any extra screws that length. They also cant grind down your screws you idiot.

You are wrong...they can be ground down very easily.

Depending on the specifics of the binding though, your tech might know a lot. Some bindings have riser that set the ramp angle of the boot relative to the ski, and they aren't necessarily the same height for toe/heel, meaning if the risers are both removed and the bindings are mounted without them, your ramp angle could be significantly different than what was intended.

Grinding down a full set of screws takes about 20 minutes which is a real pain in the ass when the shop is busy. Plus you need to be more careful screwing them in. They might have just not wanted the hassle.

On Jibs the risers are the same the same, about 2mm. Mount them with only the toe risers if you want less ramp.
