Is hv30 good as a first video camera?

Like I've already mentioned in the title I'm quite noobish at vid cameras.

I'd like to get a hd one and from what i read canon hv30 seems like a good one.

But the thing is: will I be able to handle it?

yeah man, go for it.  I love my hv30, and i'm definitely no pro with it.  the camera has a fully automatic setting, so there's no need to worry that you won't be able to 'handle it'.  when in doubt shoot on auto, and then you can explore the manual settings and use them as you get comfortable.  that's pretty much what i did.
one drawback of the hv30 is that its manual focus adjustment is pretty useless, so don't expect to be able to do nice rack focuses.  i pretty much only shoot with auto focus cuz the thing is a bitch to use.
the front page vid right now 'when doug met jay' is mine, shot on an hv30. image quality is way better uncompressed of course.  good luck

what about editing with cameras like this? im gettin an hv20 for xmas and i was wondering if my dell inspiron e1505 laptop would handle the HD quality. ive read that its really slow to render and such.. this would be my first camera and my first time editing videos besides on windows movie maker for school projects and such.. ++k for help on this... and no i didnt searchbar i just wanted to leave this comment in this thread
