Step 1) Go to doctor

Step 2) Say you can't focus and have a hard time getting your work done

Step 3) Be sure you dress decently and present yourself as a together kid

Step 4) Get prescription for greatest invention of mankind to date: ADDERALL! YAY!


If you haven't taken adderall, imagine drinking really strong coffee, but having it last for hours. Coffee generally makes people jittery but adderall doesn't. At worst it may raise your heart rate a little.

Basically it makes you feel like you're the shit. It makes you want to get all your work done...and actually do it, makes you happier, makes you wayy more productive/faster at doing work, increases confidence, increases talkitive instincts (decreases inhibitions), and as long as you manage when you will come down off it (6hrs generally for the generic) then you can completely manage your sleep patterns. It won't necessarily make you "smarter" but it will make you be on top of your game. In general it just makes you feel like a boss.

Sadly it has recieved a lot of criticism. Some kids take it to party which can be dangerous. Some kids snort it which is stupid. If you are responsible then you really won't become hooked on it or "need" it to get through the day. Some people frown on taking it if you aren't diagnosed with ADD. Guess what, when they decide you have ADD they base it on how you respond to adderall. If it helps you get shit done then you must have had ADD. Clearly it will help everyone get shit done so therefore we must all have ADD.

To those who think that taking adderall for school is somehow cheating: it doesn't magically make you smarter. The only thing it does is allows you to study and get things done in the way you imagine you can but always get distracted/lose focus from.

Adderall saved me this quarter during finals. Thank you adderall gods. I know this has been discussed a bit so please don't searchbar me. This is just an urge to everyone on NS to at least try it. I guarantee it will help you.

i find that meth gets me just a little more "twacked out" than i want...it also gives you that nasty meth mouth feeling. i'll stick to aderall when i have 25 plus pages to write in 24 hours thanks.

if you really need adderall to do your work, maybe you should rethink why you're doing the work. if you need to be forced into it, then you don't see it as being beneficial to you. so why do it? write a book instead, or invent something, do something you want to do because you know it's in your best interests.

no disrespect to anybody taking this stuff, but you need to really look at why you're taking it, figure out the pros and the cons and realize what you really want to get out of life.

Man so many kids are doing that shit at school, it can't be do for you. I'm personally against it, if you're dedicated to your studies you can get by without it. University is hard but with time management any class is do able.

I havent gotten any adderall this year, for some reason its been hard to find for me and when i do find its expensive. But adderall is pretty much the reason i got a 3.7 in engineering last year, now that iv transferred into business i guess i dont need it as much, but its pretty much the greatest studying tool ever. I wouldn't do shit all semester long then take some adderall and put in around 16 hours of studying straight the night before an exam and ace it. I would actually feel motivated to study, i would actually want to study and feel good about how well i was studying.

it seems like you don't know what its like to have a learning disability or ADD. someone who needs to take adderall isn't going to go write a book. that's completely counterintuitive. you're applying the whole "ski for fun, not for other reasons" argument to taking a medication...and that's stupid. reevaluate your reasons for doing school work? hahaha give me a break.


and for the record, adderall IS an amphetamine.

finally a senisble response!

everyone with the whole "blah blah FOCUS ON YOUR OWN" philosophy, while i understand the general principle you're operating off of, and in most cases that sort of independent attitude is the right way to deal with situations, sometimes you just can't pick what papers you have to write or books you have to read, and incidentally, you didn't spend all semester on a perfect planning schedule. and yeah, you might say...if you're not enjoying it, then why are you in school? well, let's be realistic. any chance of getting a decent job requires college, and a few painful papers are certainly worth a college degree, so if you need a little adderall here and there to get the job done, okay, can you honestly say you've never cut corners to try and make your life a little easier? i don't endorse regular usage, in fact, after my experience last night with adderall, i wouldn't reccommend it to anyone right now, but if you choose to do it occasionally so you can study hard for finals, big fucking deal.

I get what you're saying some people need it. I just feel society in general is always trying to find a quick fix solution, and for some who has ADD its cool to take Addrerall. But people without a disability should be able to focus on their own. And your body is telling you something for a reason, listen to it. I realize sometimes you need to cut corners and the work load at uni is huge, but this quick pill pop thing is just another easier way out.

I have a learning disability it takes me hours to do my reading. I can't focus, hell I should be studying right now. But I deal with it and so should most people.
I have friends that have ADD in uni and they don't need meds to focus, why should someone without a disability need them?

yea if you want to be an engineer major and still have a life you may find yourself taking addys once in a while. Take them as little as possible unless you wanna become a skinny crack head. It's really like speed, if you wanna see the down side watch REQUEM FOR A DREAM.

adderall is just a mixture of amphetamine salts.

i took two 20 mg XRs last year for to study for finals which was my sophmore year in highschool. this was dumb as fuck 1. no sophmore needs adderall to study for finals and 2. i fell asleep like 4 hrs later anyways with no trouble.

adderall: the reason I did anywhere near good on the past 5 finals this week. I'm all done right now lieing in bed, flying home tomorrow, stoned as fuck, reminiscing on the past 4 days that was my adderall binge. Shit fucks with you if you use it irresponsibly, I'm pretty sure I am nocturnal. 3 all nighters in the past 5 days, I can't wait to be home tomorrow and lie in my comfy ass bed and sleep for at least 18 hours.

Slightly different... they do the same thing, sure, but they get it done in different ways. One is a fucked up pharmaceutical drug that alters your brain chemistry and the other is a time-tested energy boost. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Aderall ADD or no, but I would NEVER take it every day. It's a gamble, if you're willing to do that to your body for "feeling like a boss" that's your prerogative, but constantly pumping your body up with pharmaceutical meth will fuck your shit right up.

i like how you continually rationalize your drug use, and compare it with social norms, saying they're the same thing. Last i checked caffeine was never used to treat ADD. The fact of the matter is adderall  has a significantly higher risk:benefit ratio than the much milder psycho stimulant-- Caffeine and it activates the brain in significantly different ways.

As for coffee being related to 'academic cheating', i don't follow your logic. Adderall is a controlled substance intended for those who have a legitimate psychological disorder -- ADD/ADHD it is not something available to the general public. By using it when it isn't necessary means a. you're breaking the law b.gaining an unfair advantage. Perhaps if adderall were legal for everyone it wouldn't be considered cheating in the accidemic world, but i'd still hold my reserves based on the risk:benifit ratio.

caffeine on the otherhand is not illegal, thus everyone has access to it if they feel it to be benificial to their study habbits. Because everyone has acess, it's not deemed an unfair advantage.

still as was said to each their own, but ryno's got the best point, what are you promoting when you begin to abuse a substance for temprary gain? Unless you're willing to make the argument that it ought to be encorporated into every day life, it's a dumb solution to a non-existant problem. If you don't have ADD you don't need adderall to focus, you need will power. If you don't have the motivation to drive you through impossibly tough courses, then perhaps you're studying the wrong thing.

i was on adderal previously i have serious add it helps i alot i went to a proper doctor etc....
adderal is good for work if u enjoy never sleeping
i went from 150 to 130 on the time i was on it
never ate
my work did go up but adderol is not the only one there are non stiumlants which im on now which are 10x better i think but its dif for everyone

Contrary to popular (dumb peoples') beliefs, school is not a competition. Using words like "unfair advantage" about school makes you look like a tool. He's studying harder, not copying someone's essay. I'm against daily Aderall use for anyone, including people with ADD, a concentration disease? Can anyone say scam? Pharmaceutical companies will scare people into buying the dumbest shit... but using Addies every once in awhile is not "cheating" or even necessarily all that bad for you.

last i checked requirements for scholarships, admittance to grad school, standardized tests (LSAT, MCAT, etc.) all put heavy weight on how well you do relative to others. Now if there are less scholarships and seats for admittance, you've got to have some hell of an argument to tell me that there isn't competition in the education system. The fact is we're given a graded scale of performance -- why else would it matter how well we did if it wasn't to be used in some sort of comparison between others.

It's tough for me to make a solid argument because there is so much support for taking shortcuts in education -- cliffnotes, buy-essay websites, course note/test wikis, it's tough to find those who take education seriously anymore. (But who can blame them, a lot of the education system suffers from poor design anyways.)  Still i'm going to stand by my position, however poorly designed the system may be, to break the law to provide yourself an advantage is wrong, and undermines the whole point of a degree.

All right....I'm really tired of taking a ton of shit for this thread.

I was diagnosed with ADD even after getting good grades in high school (3.8 in full AP) when I came to college. When in high school I didn't even consider I had it. College is a lot different ball game from high school and I made this thread to say that a lot us who have trouble paying attention can be helped by Adderall.

I regret people taking personal jabs at me in this thread. Way to be dicks about it guys. I probably shouldn't have made this when I was drunk after finishing finals. I don't even take my full prescribed dose or come close to taking it every day. 

Coffee alters your neurochemistry too by the way geniuses. Why do you think if you drink a ton you get headaches while not on it. Classic withdrawl symptoms. Take a neurobio class and then come talk to me. about this shit.
