Using somebody elses pass

i heard that brekenridge has stepped up their theft policy. does anybody know if its still as easy to use a buddys ski pass for the day?

As long as you look vaguely similiar to the person on your pass then you're OK. It's when your pass says you're a 12 year old girl that problems arise.

my buddy told me today what he does is take the stap for season passes and puts his school ID in there...now hills bye me dont have scanners and whatnot but i thought it might actually work because they rarely check it

I think it greatly depends on the liftie there was a guy in front of me who got busted at copper and the liftie just said you don't look like an angela but I've also had a couple friends here in steamboat the have been busted.

Its really not worth it, my buddy let someone borrow his pass last year and then lost it for the rest of year, so if your borrowing a pass get your own so u dont feel mad guilty about fucking over a friend for the rest of the season and if someone is looking to use your pass tell em to fuck off

I don't see the harm in letting someone use your pass for the day, obviously the person who it belongs to isn't skiing. If it fucks anyone up it's the person who bought it, they lose a day and paid for it

with the new system, at vail resorts, of keeping passes in your jacket it might work if all that shows up is a name. Can any lifties at those resorts tell us what comes up when a ticket is scanned?

yeah, your picture does show up. at vail even 4 day passes are now on id cards with your picture

Not sure about Breck but if it has turnstalls the picture shows on a  screen in the lifty hut.
Two of my mates got caught here because they didn't look like the picture they lost their passes, got banned and fined I think.

i got caught for that last year. i told em i lost my pass and they gave me a free day pass which i gave to buddy and i just used my pass. they wrote my name on the day pass so my seaons pass and they day pass had the same name on it. the liftie caught us and they took my pass away and im banned from getting a pass at that hill. i also had to pay 50 bones which they give to the liftie that caught us. it was the end of the seaon so i didn't care

All of the Vail resorts can see your pic, address, favorite pizza, etc.  You can get arrested, the pass will be taken, and I have heard of them putting you on a "Don't Sell to" list, meaning you couldn't buy another one.  Not worth it in my opinion.

mammoth started coming down on that last season
now its intense,
they arrest and take you to jail
riding without a pass is still theft and they give you a hefty fine
im now scared to ride anywhere with someone elses pass

haha at northstar i was using this kids pass and the picture was hella scene looking, he asked me what my birthday was and i guess, missed by like 8 days. He was like are you serious, so i was just like Dude i straightened my hair for that pic so he just threw me the pass and let me go up the gondola

using someone elses pass can lead to arrests for trespassing. for the guy that said "say you grabbed your friends pass in the morning" they can easily check their records to see if you actually do have a pass of your own.

is it really worth a fine or potential lawsuit? fuck just pay your money. if you can't afford it, HIKE!

word, you'lll get in less trouble for hiking than for using a friends pass.  They will just tell you to turn around most likely.

As a ticket checker last year at Crested Butte, I would advise everyone to not use someone elses pass. The resort gave us incentives to catch people (which when combined with the crappy pay, really made me want to get people). $50 per pass fraud.

Simply put, dont do it. It is really not worth it, its a hassle for everyone involved. The police get called, I would have to fill out a witness statement (which I really hated), my boss had to fill out tons of paperwork, and then some dude is gonna he fined on top of it. I mean, not that it matters to many people on this site, but its illegal. Just remember, money talks.

Yeah they have really cracked down on that at our moutain. The head liftie whom I know very well was checking passes and he was like oh whats up alex can i just see your pass quick, and of course i didnt have my employee card yet and that was the day i decided to not walk to the lodge and get a comp. So he walked me up to the main office and the whole way there he was just like "im really sorry alex but these are the new rules, if you dont have a pass we have to take you to tammy(The moutain GM)" So he took me up there and tammy was just like get a comp.

Has anyone ever tried to pay off a liftie?  If they are doing it for the money, and it is hassle to fill out paper work, I am sure if you slipped them 50 and left for the day that might beat getting arrested.  In my opinion, resorts need to offer more discounts to college students and high school students.  They have to know they can't always afford to ride.

There are a couple problems with that argument though...

First, if you have a 50 to slip to one of the ticket checkers...why are you not buying a day pass? For example, CB is offering $35 lift tickets for anyone who shows up with a pass holder...in other words, flag down a season pass holder and get your discount.

Secondly, the ticket checker that you slipped a 50 to might not be there all day. They have lunch breaks, projects, and other stuff too. They might get moved around from lift to lift also. There is no guarantee that they will be there when you want to get back. Which at CB is not a good thing, because while they only check at the base area (but not at West Wall...shhhhh) if you want to ride the High Lift (which accesses Headwall, Big Chute, Teo Bow..etc)...you have to ride the Silver Queen at the base.

There might be ways around all of that, but that takes a lot of planning...more than you have probably have planned. I can only speak for Crested Butte, but there are definitely ways around paying for a lift ticket. Look at the trailmap. Just a heads up though, beginning this season there will be ticket checkers at Paradise.

it just takes ninja skills:
-wear stuff that covers your whole face and hair
-be the same sex and about the same age as the pass holder
-know their b-day and address
-rush through the line so they dont have much time to think if you're fo real
-after you're off the base, take the mid-mountain or back mountain lift the rest of the day

its not hard, only noobs get caught because they use their lil sisters pass.
don't worry, if youre smart you cant get caught.
