Deferred admission? help!?

im a senior in high school and i fell in love with dartmouth, which is weird because its on the east coast and a long ways away from home and the big mountains but i really liked it there...so i applied early decision. Today is the day that they tell you whether you are in or out....and im "deferred"?

So i guess they put my app back in with the regular decision and wait until the normal time to make a decision? does anyone have any experience with being deferred? did you change your application at all? I guess im just looking for someone to shed some light on the situation and im wondering if I should still have some hope. anything would be useful since no one ive talked to so far has any clue......thanks ns!

I was deferred when I applied to UVM for early decision, and there is nothing that you can really do. Just send the school your transcript after the semester is over, and then wait until regular decisions come out. I am going to UVM now, so obviously you can get into the school after being deferred.

i don't really know if there is much you can do about it but wait... but it definitely is quite common to get deferred.. especially with a school like Dartmouth.. that's a very good school..they're trying to make sure they get the best students. I have a friend that had his admission to Cornell deferred  and then he got accepted with the normal applicants. best of luck to you.

you just have to wait, but don't feel too bad about it. it's one of the ivy leagues, so that's a common thing for them to do. as long as you do well in school until you graduate, you should be fine. good luck to you.

I got deferred to my #1 choice, Bentley College, so I sent them a letter telling them that i loved the school, blah, blah...

I didn't end up getting in, but maybe it is worth a shot in your case? Good luck

bummer dude 2 of my friends got deferred from dartmouth today too. Good luck in regular admissions, better than getting denied

When the school defers from early admission you it just means that they don't think you're hot shit and your application will be considered with the not-so-over-achievers. Don't worry about it, it's not a bad sign. Just be on the lookout for any mailings they send out, and look on the website for more information about what you can do after being deferred.

call the office of admissions furiously checking the status of your application, they'll finally get so annoyed they'll just send you the letter of acceptance, haha.  just kidding... you really just have to wait, best of luck!

Yeah, not a whole lot you can do. Definitely send your updated transcript and stuff when you get it, and if you get any new awards, leadership positions, whatever during senior year, you could send a letter in or something. Other than that, just cross your fingers.
I got deferred from my first choice (MIT) and didn't end up getting in, but I've heard of a lot of people that did get in after getting deferred if you keep getting good grades and stuff. Even getting deferred puts you above most kids, though - you should do fine wherever you go. Good luck

I got deferred at U of M, didn't bother going through with it to get in. I found it ridiculous that I got deferred because I was a pretty model candidate with good gpa, vasity athlete, lots of AP classes, high ACT score etc. I probably would have got in but I didn't really care to try. Some of my friends that got in were no where near as qualified as me too. Alot of schools defer students that would be great there and take more people above and below you because they want a more "diverse" student body, and if they wanted to they could fill their whole campus with 4.0 students but they have other goals.

You still have a good chance of getting in, just wait it out. Good luck.

thanks for the feedback everyone.

I really really really want to get and it would have been nice to know today but oh well....i just get to wait some more. I'll just send in my mid-year report and see what they say in april...ugh
