Snowflake Chart

Its crazy how by changing the temp you can go from plates to columns to plates again.

wonder wich ones are the best for powder,
probably the ones that clump together the least effectivly

cold blower pow, mmmmm i miss idaho

It also is a factor in how easily a slope will avalanche

yeah really weird...

So the obvious thing to question from the chart is what types of snow (flakes) are common to where. Everyone claims snow sticks to steeper faces in AK, that CO/UT snow is way lighter, that Cascade concrete is heavy as shittt.....so what types of flakes are those?

I'm gonna venture to guess that "powder" aka light and fluffy is plates because they don't really intertwine, therefore leaving a lot of space (air) between them. This is also why really light snow doesn't pack together well. This trend would follow the chart well. Wet snow is probably more of the "dendrite" form cuz it packs together so well (the branches intertwine and hook on each other), and the more saturation on the chart you get that form.

AK: Really cold and (dry?) - Columns
UT/CO: Moderately cold and dry - Solid Plates
PNW: Warm and wet - Dendrites
