You can't just cut out marketing/promotions and think that will save a company. Sure, divest from questionable marketing activities, but something like the Mets sponsorship is pretty important to them and i'm sure it provides better returns than some other promotions

its stupid how every stadium has a sponsored name now.  Im from MI and everything in detroit is switching
Tiger Stadium > Comerica Park
Silverdome > Ford Field

There is still joe louis arena and palace of auburn hills, but im sure that will change whenever they get new arenas.  that was slightly off topic

Its not like tiger stadium just changed names, they built whole new parks. When a company is willing to spend money to get a new arena, then why the hell not. Adding those things to the D was probably the best thing that's happened downtown in a long time. They were talking about building a new hockey rink though, outside of detroit. Not sure what happened with that.

yea, i know they built new ones, thats what i meant.  and yes, they needed new stadiums for sure.  but how come back in the day they could have stadiums without sponsored names?
and for the hockey rink i heard they were going to do it across from comerica and ford field.  i dont know exactly where, but the city NEEDS to keep it downtown for those small businesses

I know I understand marketing is important.  My point is this is THE LARGEST name rights contract in history, and we the taxpayers are paying for it.  Does that not irritate the shit out of you?
