Have you ever caught somebody stealing/screwing with your gear?

So i was reading the thread about having stuff stolen and i just wanted to know if anybody has caught somebody in the act of walking off with your skis? what did you do? i'm curious because i don't even know what my reaction would be. needless to say, it probably would involve a little bit more than me giving the offender a stern talking-to.

the only experience i have was with my dad. we were skiing at a hill in the middle of nowhere where the locals all wear snowmobile suits and hunting coveralls. we stopped at this little bar at the bottom of the hill so we could warm up quick and grab something to drink. as we walk out, this snowboarder gaper complete with snowmobile clothing and shitty 10 year old burton board decides he was gonna show off to his friends and grabs my dads relatively new fischer pow skis of the ski rack and throws them on the ground so he could put his board there. mind you this was a sunday in a bumfuck town in minnesota, so barely anybody was there since football was on. needless to say, basically all the spots on the racks were open except for where my dad and i put our skis. this guy could have put his board anywhere, but decided to fuck with my dad's stuff. my dad saw it through the window and walked out. he walked right up to the guy, didn't say a thing, grabbed his skis off the ground, and pretended to walk off like nothing happened. then he turned around when this dick thought it was all over and swung his skis by the tails at this dude's dome. the guy kinda jumped when he saw my dad swinging his skis at him so the skis caught him in the neck rather than the head. the edges cut the guy's neck, but not serious. just a little cut or two. the guy and his friends ran off and it was the end of it. kind of a claim, but i've never seen my dad do anything like this. i was happy he wasnt going to let this shit just happen to him like that. i was expecting him to just yell at him or something, not swing his skis at the dude. it was intense to say the least.

anybody else have a good story?

no one really steals stuff at my hill since pretty much everyone knows each other. but I do see flyers up asking for skis back because a lot of stupid people grab skis that look exactly like theirs and they don't realize it till the try and clip in and sometimes that doesn't happen for a few weeks but its purely because a lot of people at my hill are morons. thankfully Im the only one at my hill, well actually the only one I've ever seen with lizzies.

but when I go to the public hill beside mine I always lock them up or if I forget the lock I either separate them or bury them in the snow. but this one time I got bitched out by a snowboarder for using a snowboard slot on the rack and the guy just couldn't understand that my lizzies just wont fit in the normal ski slot.

yeah its hard to explain but i only do that if i go in for a few minutes. if im going in fo rover 5-10 min. i check them into a shed for like lunch and stuff. so if someone wants to take the time to unsrcew the bindings i can catch them.

When I was racing and we were just standing around some fucktards would come around and kick my boots out of the bindings from the side. This pissed me off because it fucked up my bindings. Other than that I havn't had anything stolen or broken...

I just make sure to leave mine near some other decently good skis...if you were a potential thief, which pair would you take, the pair that's got a lock on it, or the pair that doesn't.  Not that I want the other person's skis to be stolen either, but it's better if your skis don't stick out in the rack.

I had a friend who left his 169 Fujatives on the rack and came back to find he had 179 Fujatives.


And another friend who ended up with midget joysticks instead of his longer pair.

no but this gaper scraped the landing of a rail i was working on on purpose last weekend because my skis were blocking the way of the jump (the guy who lent me the rake told me to block off the takeoff) so i tackled him in the lift line haha. and there was a domino effect and everyone was pissed

I havent ever had anything stolen but i am really cautious because i ski with almost 1000 dollars of stuff to grab. Bindings poles and skis add up to a lot, I have seen someone lose there 1000 dollar tellemark skis

Story that i guess fits

So about two years ago or so i was up at my local hill with this rec program where they takeyou up to the mountain for like 5 hours and then they bring you home. and earlier in the day my girlfriend had broken up with me so i was pretty pissed off already and i was sittin in the lodge when this kid i know(were not really friends but i didnt hate the kid) comes up to the table me and my friends were sittint at and starts tellin us how his brand new shaun white board was stolen and he wanted me and my friend to gofind the guy. normally i wouldnt give a fuck but since i was alreaddyy pissed and i felt like pickin a fight me and my friend DJ walk down to the parking lot where we see this guy walking away with two boards. so we automatically start bookin it afterhim  screamin. by the time we get down to the other side of the parking lot where this guy was at he had already put the boards in his trunk and was backing up. well me and my friend block  the car and start yellin at him to get out. so he gets out and hes like "wow man chill i didnt take anything" and we were justflipiin out at this guy, you could tell that he was scared shitless and so we get him to open his trunk and we check the boards and it was a shaun white but not the same one. so after we made sure it wasnt this kids board we apologized and everything was cool and he stopped crapping his pants. we felt really bad about scarin the guy so much after, we totally went overboard. but hey i got the rush i needed from it and i didnt even need to kill anyone hah. the end.

someone stole my fujatives that had the edges comin out, water damage, broken brakes and a lopsided binding from outside the pub in verbier. i was so angry, i was gonna get new skis anyway, but they were the first pair i had ever owned, so i wanted to keep them to put on my wall. bum.

3 years ago up at smuggs my skis got stolen, Than a year later, i was skiing on my new skis and i saw a pair that looked just like my old ones with the same bindings and everything. I got the ski popo to nab the guy and what do you know, They were my skis! probably one of the funniest things ever that guy was pissed but hey he stole my skis! i was pumped to get them back

Well today i had my skis locked up beside my friends and we were leaving. When i go over to get my skis i see this guy standing eyeing a pair of invaders that were not locked. As soon as my friend and i walked up he left, grabbed his shitty old skis and got in his car. I was kinda thinking i just saved somones gear.

I was at Mont-tremblant and i had a back-pack with my shoes and some clothes cuz i slept someones house the night before, and i ended up elaving it in the lodge at the top of the mountain. and when i was eating lunch, my bag was across the room and it was a nice burton bag, and i saw a guy that was like 19 years old, i was 15 at the time, jsut take my bag and start walking. i went to see him and told him it was mine and he acted all surprised and said somethign along the liones of "oh god i didnt realize! i took the wrong bag my bad" and eneded up putting it back and walking out without a bag. besides that, ive been lucky with my ski gear!
