Have you ever caught somebody stealing/screwing with your gear?

So i was reading the thread about having stuff stolen and i just wanted to know if anybody has caught somebody in the act of walking off with your skis? what did you do? i'm curious because i don't even know what my reaction would be. needless to say, it probably would involve a little bit more than me giving the offender a stern talking-to.

the only experience i have was with my dad. we were skiing at a hill in the middle of nowhere where the locals all wear snowmobile suits and hunting coveralls. we stopped at this little bar at the bottom of the hill so we could warm up quick and grab something to drink. as we walk out, this snowboarder gaper complete with snowmobile clothing and shitty 10 year old burton board decides he was gonna show off to his friends and grabs my dads relatively new fischer pow skis of the ski rack and throws them on the ground so he could put his board there. mind you this was a sunday in a bumfuck town in minnesota, so barely anybody was there since football was on. needless to say, basically all the spots on the racks were open except for where my dad and i put our skis. this guy could have put his board anywhere, but decided to fuck with my dad's stuff. my dad saw it through the window and walked out. he walked right up to the guy, didn't say a thing, grabbed his skis off the ground, and pretended to walk off like nothing happened. then he turned around when this dick thought it was all over and swung his skis by the tails at this dude's dome. the guy kinda jumped when he saw my dad swinging his skis at him so the skis caught him in the neck rather than the head. the edges cut the guy's neck, but not serious. just a little cut or two. the guy and his friends ran off and it was the end of it. kind of a claim, but i've never seen my dad do anything like this. i was happy he wasnt going to let this shit just happen to him like that. i was expecting him to just yell at him or something, not swing his skis at the dude. it was intense to say the least.

anybody else have a good story?

^^^ thats intense....once sum kid from mt school atthe local hill decided to take my fujatives and put one ontop of the chalet roof and the other atop an equipment shed, i saw all this happen, came outside and flipped at him while he was laughing so i took his gay ass snowboard and gave it a good toss toward the employee/emergency vehicle path, board got ran over by a truck and his bindings broke, i got my skis and slayed the rest of the day while he cried :)

lol your dad sounds pretty intense.

In whistler if you have a ski setup worth over 800 its worth it to buy a lock. I've seen people skiing down the mountain with skis in their hands before, but if you get caught ur fucked...

Sweet story, I've never had anything stolen but when I was in Italy last year someone moved my stuff to another rack. So when I went to get my skis they were gone and I kinda almost flipped but lucky spotted them pretty quickly.

i fucking hate skiing at a small mountain and having really pricy stuff, i geek out when i don't have my lock

i guess that since i'm the only person their with anthems, i could find them again easily, but i don't think that person would ride them at the same place again

once somebody stole my poles at Stowe. i dont know why cuz you can get poles from the rental place for like 5 bucks. My mountain has a complementary ski check tho, very convenient

The only thing similar that's happened to me was at vail when some dude was moving my skis out of the way to get to his behind. I saw him holding my skis and i was about to call him out on it but then he put them back down so it was all good.

This doesnt involve me but i witnessed a friend catch a kid attempting to walk out with his board....... he waited till he got to the parking lot and gave him a quick slam in the back of the head with a buddies ski boot.... needless to say he walked away with his gear and a little adrenaline rush

yea this happened like last week to my brother.. he put his punisher poles down and gave the to the lift guy to watch.. But this is a very small mountain like elevations like 500 ft.. well anyways this kid that we thought was cool told the guy that those were his while he had ski poles in hhis hand.. so we look for them for  alil and ride up the Tp lift and see this kid skiing down with two pairs of poles in his hands so i bolt down to the bottom of the hill where this kids got his skis off and was about to walk inside with the poles and a just grab the poles and said a couple things.. should of done more but i decieded not to but damn we see this kid alll the time to

haha thats sweet that reminds me of my dad. when i was really little like 4 i was about to get on the lift with my dad and this douche bag boarder cut us off and got on in front of us. when we got off at the top the guy was standing with his friends and my dad skis over to him and decks him in the face. like completely lays him out. it was so sick cause im sure my dad was at least 30 years older than the guy. and yes that is an ultimate claim for an awesome dad

story time.

i went skiing at copper on opening day last year. I was skiing around the mini park they had set up and then went into the lodge for probably 15 minutes. I put my skis and poles on the rack and walked away. I came back out to find the $40 poles that my mom had bought me for my birthday gone and replaced with some cheap rental poles. I wasn't too stoked but atleast they left me poles.

how do you guys lock your skis?

i mean theres not exactly a good way to lock skis to a rack. iv always just split mine up and put em in different spots, but with kids these days im thinkin i need to start lockin em up.

what do you guys use to lock your skis???

ya.My stories lame.

i was at Loveland first day of the season. I went in with some friends and we were going to leave so i put my poles down right next to my skis. I come out five minutes later and they're gone. Kinda pissed me off cuz it was the first day of the season but i wanted new ones anyway. Its weirder though when it actually happens to you. Anyway i've learned and may never buy poles that are over 30 or even 20 (just got some kid ones at sports plus or something for 12 bucks) b/c no one will want them and they're easily replacable. Its weird too cuz your poles were with your skis so why didn't they take my skis. Whatever.

When I was 16, I was teaching my little sister who was 6 at the time how to ski on a green run while my parents took a coffee break and this waste of skin snowboarder who was probably about my age was flying out of control and crashed into me from behind and hit my little sis too. Luckily my 6 year old sis wasn't hurt, just really scared, and i was somehow fine other than a sore back. I flipped out, took off my mitts, hit him as a hard i could several times, and said some stuff i shouldn't have said in front of my sis and then left the kid with a bloody nose on the hill and carried my sis who was too scared to ski to the bottom. It's like the only time where i have ever just absolutely lost it.

my story,

i always split my skis up and put them far enough apart so that you cant see one from the other. once i came out of the lodge and went to grab my skis and the first spot i went to my ski was gone. so i figured someone found both of my skis (which happen to be spray painted in one spot) and walked off with them. so i went over to where my other ski was and found that they were both there clicked together. i guess someone thought my skis were wrongfully split up?

i was taking my boots off in the locker room and had my skis set in a ski rack right outside the isle way so i could still see them. i looked up and saw some lil kid, like 12 years old grabbing them and just casually walking like i wouldnt notice. i jsut got up and was like hey give those back and he dropped them and ran so fast. so now when im in the locker room, my skis rest at my feet at all times. haha

A little bump, but oh well.

My story is at MRG some guy "borrowed" my bro's poles to give to his kid for a "few runs".  My brother found that he was using them and got mad, the guy got all defensive and started telling my bro off.  I for one can't tolerate adults looking down on kids like that, so when I heard the story I saw the guy and I told him that he couldn't just take people's poles, he started getting defensive and tried to tell me off.  That was it for me, I kinda got carried away (I didn't curse cus there were kids around) and I think I made him feel pretty bad.  But IMO he deserved it, cus he took my bro's poles and got angry at us for it.

about a week annd a half ago, one of the guys on parkstaff with me had his board stolen. and this guy is on the atomic national snowboard team, along with the bonfire national team. so he has his brand new 2010 board and bindings jacked. so we all said we would keep and eye out for the board (you cant miss it, plus it was a very uniqe sticker job cause he was a vinal cutter) so today when im shredding around by myself i see his board out side of the caf window. so i park myself there and wait for the theif. and i had a resort radio on me at the time because i ws helping with a jump build. but as im sitting there waiting for the culpret i radio the 2 biggest guys on ski patrol to come hang around near me, but not with me to make shit seem suspicious. so when the kid come out i act as if im just going in to get a drink, so i out my skis down and it goes as follows:
"sick board dude! who makes that"
"uhh, atomic."
" cool man, its super sweet, is it this years model"
"yea, i think so it was a gift, i didnt get to pick it out"
" do you have a vinal cutter? "
" a what?"
"where did u get those stickers from?"
"stores....why?"
"realy. cause i can prove that that isnt your board"
"fuck you!" and he tries to walk away
i hit him in the face, trip him. and grab his( my buddys ) board and the ski patrol guys jump on him and his friend and take them in. then i phone andrew and tell him i got his board back.
