Are you fucking kidding me?!?! It been around for 17 years and the big mountian pioneers all dealt with it... And the name is simple enough the Extreme Freekiing championship....
And to the creator of this thread there really isnt to many lower level big mountian comps... You have Snowmass and Taos being the only ones that aren't on the world tour.... and the big names in the freekiing community still show up to those ones as well... If I were you check one out online, and if you have the chones you should do it... and they are just wicked fun to be at... Trust me on this one I have been doing them for four years now and I will never stop doing them....

you will once your knees blow out from landing on a patch of ice while trying to lawndart a 30+ footer. Seen it happen...
but yeah. the vibes are SO chill there, even if you aren't the best. You learn while you're out there, meet a lot of people, and if you go again each year or travel around at times you will generally meet some of the same people again. I personally like the vibe more than park comps, but that's just me. seems like not many people really give a shit about your score as long as you're having fun and aren't an ass.
Oh, and sick bird awards are one of the greatest ski comp inventions ever.
