I think my girlfriend wrote it.
Effects of Globalization
Part A
Before – What did you know about Globalization before reading?
Before I did this reading I did not know much at all about globalization. I understood that it was a common issue and because I have taken world issues it had been discussed in class but we never had to do an assignment on it so I never learned fully what it entailed. I could tell by the name how ever that it had to do with the entire world working as one.
During - Briefly note new information you find about Globalization during reading.
Having read the information on globalization I now know that globalization can be considered beneficial and detrimental to the world. I also know that it began after the second world war. I know now that the internet and new means of transportation have fueled globalization and made it possible. I also learned that globalization was widening the gap between the richer and poorer countries. Lastly, I learned that globalization is essentially westernizing the entire world, which takes culture away from others.
After - Summarize the reading on Globalization in one main-idea sentence.
Globalization is a term used to describe a world that is more dependant on one another than it used to be, which cause changes in the economy, business and culture.
List three new issues, questions or concerns raised by reading the article.
1. Will multinational corporations continue to control a large share of the world economy?
2. Will academic authors still continue to doubt globalization and consider it a myth?
3. Due to greater technological advancements all the time, how far will globalization go? Will increasing globalization eventually eliminate nations?
Part B
For Greenland, my IBP country globalization has been both beneficial and detrimental. Because of the geography of Greenland the country is very secluded. Globalization has helped to include Greenland in more international affairs because technology makes it easier to reach everywhere. Globalization has stopped the isolation of Greenland. However, it can be said that globalization has forced Greenland into other local cultures and has begun to westernize the remote country. This is a problem for the people of Greenland because although it allows them to move forward in the business world it takes away from their unique culture and ways of living. It is also forcing some to learn English, which is beneficial for doing business, but does not apply to the culture their because English isn’t one of their national languages.
