Give me some ideas for an essay..

So I have an English final coming up, and my teacher has revealed the topic.
Basically I have to argue what the benefits of studying English are as a required course for first year university students; considering there is so much more value placed on Science, Commerce, or Law classes.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. I want this paper to be a little outside the box.

Stress the importance of English in other studies?

Thanks.
I've been writing down a basic outline of how I plan to attack the essay.
So far I've decided to stress the universal acceptance of English in my primary field of study (Business).
I was thinking about going in to greater detail about citation, essay writing, speaking etc.. But I'm not entirely sure what points to focus on.

At WWU English is a huge part of the first year curriculum. Everybody has to take English 101, and there are a ton of English 101 classes offered and they only have like 30 kids per class. Maybe they just don't teach english much at you school?

regardless of what empirical data you've gained through science, if you can't eloquently communicate your revelations, nobody cares.

^this guys got the right idea. Depending on your professor (whether you think they'd appreciate something like this) you could write your intro with a thesis resembeling what he said^ and then maybe have a paragraph or two written in terrible english presenting something like that and then in the next paragraph state the same thing but make it well written, then compare and contrast the two and analyze the importance. Obviously if your prompt is strict or your professor is strict, use something a little more cut and dry, but you said you wanted something out of the box so.... just an idea.
