i understand that there are lazy people who tend to ruin things for everybody. but those people couldn't get away with being lazy if the whole community had to pitch in for it all work. the monetary system creates homelessness, creates debt that is impossible to get paid off (public, private, and government sectors). Hell, the way the monetary system is set up globally right now doesn't even make sense.
All money is created with debt of the same worth attached to it. Therefor, if everyone in the world were to pay off their debts (including the banks and governments) there wouldn't be a single penny in existence. If that's not a major flaw I don't know what is.
The bottom line is that the monetary system isn't the right way to do things. As long as we have this world where everything has a price tag and you're forced into working (slavery) just to survive and we've accepted this fate as the only way humans can "peacefully" survive well - we are truly lost.
technology like the laptop i am currently using is not the problem. technology is what will set us free. renewable resources combined with the elimination of money is the next step in getting a true global society.
Right now they say war is profitable. But who may I ask is profiting from this war, and why? Is it those men send overseas to fight (and die) for reasons they're not fully aware of and might not even agree with ? Is it the country at home that seams to be going into a major recession and is billions of dollars in debt? Is it the citizens of the country that are getting taxed millions if not billions of dollars a year? Oh wait no - it's the corporate sector that is making all the profits off wars that are being fought so that the corporate world doesn't lose any money in the first place. Why is the United States in Iraq right now? I mean really, why are they there, why were they there in the first place.
Oh yea, and as for your "peppers are not as useful as wood" - since when in hell has wood become more useful than food? food and water are number 1 on this planet for human survival. wood - well, that's just a by-product from a tree which is probably a lot more useful to humans left standing in the first place. There is a guy who builds houses out of recycled materials like old rubber tires, bottles, ect. he can build a fully insulated house without using any wood or steal or any of the materials we harvest from the planet because we think it's the only way it can be done. The construction industry creates the most waste out of any industry. Worldwide. Some places (like British Columbia I do believe) are slowly starting to make laws about how much waste is allowed at a construction site - which is causing the builders to rethink how they use materials when designing and building a new building.
If we eliminate money from our society (while at the same time switching to renewable energy sources: running water, tides, wind, waves, solar, magnetic, geothermal) we can also eliminate almost all the jobs humans think are of upmost importance to the survival of our society. banks and everything they stand for (accountants, IRS, the stock market) will be non existent. the prison system will fall apart (other than the truly troubled people that go around rapping kids and killing their family, etc (who maybe don't belong in prison in the first place but maybe in a mental ward) most people in prisons today are there because of money and their want of it). The United States of America has around 6% of the global population, and yet they house 24% of the worlds incarcerated, with more than any other country in the world on death row. The entire oil industry could be shut down, along with the marketing involved with competing corporations for the peoples business. If Mac and PC got together and made a truly great computer instead of slowly trying to one up each other, spending large amounts of money on marketing alone. Again, who is paying for all this marketing, and why?
As far as our current mentality of "we need to work, we need to earn money, we need this because without it we all..." - what? we all what? humans didn't all just sit around, be lazy and die before someone created money. The only real "jobs" that are completely necessary are jobs like teachers, doctors, and scientists. Lets look at teachers - in a world where everyone is striving for the greater good of our species I believe that we will WANT to teach our children - and teach them shit that actually matters in the world. How much stuff is being taught in schools right now that is actually going to advance them? I'm not talking about advancing them into college where they can advance into a set field in a useless career. Actually teach them about the process of recycling, why they need to cut down (or avoid) plastics, how to build a water turbine....
As for what the rest of us will do when all the jobs are gone - well, we'll think, create, inspire, do what humans do best. free time is one of the best things a human being can give to himself. Look at the greek. they were advanced enough of a civilization for people to have spare time. Instead of spending their whole lives surviving, they could sit around and talk philosophy and whatnot.
As I said earlier - what I am talking about is not communism. it is more a system of anarchy. there'd be no political leaders as we think of them today. Hell, the way the world is going with all this Union talk we'll be under one rule in 50 years (which is NOT a good thing) unless we change the system we are so willingly following right now.
I could go on - but I will stop for now. I'm sure I've angered enough of you to get some good responses.
