LAST time, I swear. [Camera]

So I'm starting to go more in depth with my photography and my first step is purchasing an SLR.. Now I've looked at the Nikon D40 and I'm afraid it'll be outdated to fast so I don't really want that one, i'm more looking towards 10MP (I know mega pixels dont matter THAT much but still) So i've got the following cameras in mind:

Canon Rebel XS with 18-55mm

Nikon D60 with 18-55mm (my least favorite)

Nikon D40x (couldnt find it in stores so dont know the lense, probably 18-55mm)

Sony A200 18-70mm + 75-300mm

Which would you go for?  They're ALL average about $550 and that's basically the max max i'm willing to pay.. If I were to get one with only 1 lense i'd use that for a while and eventually get another (after about 1 year or so)

How big are you going to be printing?

If the answer is anything less than 15x10" then get a used D70.

another vote for d70, the 1/500 flash sync is great if your going to be doing anthing with flash's

i'd say d70 too, but if your really against it id go with the canon

I don't plan on really printing anything, the pictures will most likely stay on the computer. D70 is not an option..

because people will think he is on last years camera!(making fun of skiers need for newest everything every year)

get a d70 or canon 20d.

I dont know why I even bother posting anything in them. I think what we need is to write a very good thread and have it sticky'ed for video camera and still camera information.

truth. but it is a difficult purchase to make, especially with all the money going into it and the brand impacting the rest of your camera equipment for awhile. when I got my dslr I had no idea what was going on, and ns helped out a bunch for sure.

Check out this website, I made a side-by-side comparison for you:
I would normally say CANON! because I am a Canon photog and I love their lenses. But really it comes down to what you like the feel of, and if you think you'll upgrade in the future (if you plan on upgrading it is always easier to stick with one company), and obviously what it'll be used for. My only complaint about the Rebel XS is that it is small (most people like this feature) because I have long fingers and it felt awkward without the battery grip. Go to a camera store (Henry's if you're in Ontario) and go and try out the cameras. See which feels the best, etc. etc.
Check out the link though, it's a very good website! You can check customer reviews too. The only thing about used cameras (D70) would be to know how many shots it has taken, condition it is in etc. I had a Rebel that I sold but it had taken over 40000 pictures so the AF was really bad and some of the plastic parts had become worn down.

the rebel is the only real camera on that list... nuff said. Only girls use those tiny ass nikons.
