do you know/have an estimate of the percentage of 95-00 tacos that have the frame rust problem?
i have a 96 and its about to go through its first VT winter

Have you had it inspected by a yota dealer yet. From what I've heard the worst years are toward the middle of the spectrum, as in lots of bad 98's and 97's and less bad 95/96 or 99/00. I saw the breakdown somewhere on the monster of a 60 page thread over at ttora.com

I'd say if it looks good now grind off what you can and coat it with something. Lots of failures occur at the front mounts for the rear leaf springs.

Post your VIN. I'll run it through Toyota's database and tell you if it qualifies. Toyota will give you 1.5x the blue book value for it. (then it gets CRUSHED)

Yep. You can take anything off it as long as it'll still drive, but it's only fate is to end up recycled as refrigerator doors.

Nope, I have a grey '85 solid axle pickup, a '90 solid axle 4runner (converted), and A '92 AllTrac Corolla.  Check out Toycrawlers, Jacobs thing.

Huh? What's a "SAS".  What are all stick? It was easy to cut off the independent front suspension of my 4runner with a torch, then I taught myself how to weld by putting on a solid axle. (took my awhile to figure out a decent steering setup)

A "SAS" is a solid axle swap.

I think he was asking if all 4 runners are stick which they are not.

Steering and drive shafts are the biggest problems that you would run into with a sas. especially once you start pushing the axle out with rears up front or blah blah blah

hahah you did an "SAS" (solid axle swap) yourself when you cut the IFS (independent front suspension) and swapped it for a solid axle. Also I wouldnt have learned how to weld by doing this project. It is a good idea to take a welding course or have welding knowledge before taking on a project that is supporting your life on the road. Steering is a joke to figure out, buy highsteer arms or the whole kit from any company (i.e. marlin, trail-gear, all-pro, inchworm, 4x4labs (behind the axle), wab-fab, or sky manufacturing, etc.)

it isnt hard if you have some basic mechanical knowledge and are able or have access to a welder and person who knows how to weld.  No they are not all stick there were automatics in the late 80s.  If you have any specific questions or want some links to more info about SASing or anything just shoot me a message.

nono i meant all his cars (the runner, pickup, etc) were standard. obviously there were some auto runners in the 80s and early 90s. ive seen a couple.

So I'm thinking I'm gonna keep the 4runner and dump some money into it. Engine is strong for now so I have time to do some other maintenance crap.

I was scoping out all the parts on ebay for all around tune up stuff. Looking at new shocks front and rear(I hate that sag), ball joints and tie-rod ends maybe some bushings up there(tons of play in steering now). Oh and just last night I used two hoseclamps to bring my exhaust together just in front of the cat. So probably a cat and the pipe behind it, hopefully I can leave everything in front of it alone.

Oh yea and sometime before inspection in august I gotta tear out and weld in a new cross-member in front of the engine. Shit is rusted to pieces and my mechanic said no way will he pass it like that.

With all this and a fucked tranny in my suby I'm gonna have a fun spring/summer, not to mention the ninja 250 but at least that's running good. I might try and get into an auto mechanic class to learn me some proper edumacation and possibly have access to a lift.

Put an Old Man Emu suspension in. its kind of expensive, but i have a friend with an FJ60 that has full OME and he loves it. best suspension ever.

when work starts again in the spring i will begin to put in an OME suspension, front first for a bull bar, then the rear leafs and shackles. it has around a 2" lift.

I'm not really interested in lifting it or putting larger tires on for now. I'm just looking to help it ride and handle a little better for now.

bought OME front suspension today. cost 400 in parts but im gonna put it in myself. supposed to come sometime soon ill post it when it does.

Trouble with the new t100. I've got a turn signal that won't go off!!!!! No biggie really. As far as I can tell bulbs all work good so I'm leaning toward it being a bad flasher relay thingy or whatever. Well I buy one and tear off the dash, only to find it isn't where it is supposed to be under the dash. Possibly the guy who owned the truck before me did some rewiring due to fireman lights and fogs and such, also radio or scanner who knows. All I know is I'm seeing bunches of wrapped wires down there and no relay where it is supposed to be.

Any clue on where this guys might have put this thing, like someplace that might make sense. Can I turn on the signal and listen for the relay clicking???? Is my only option to chase the wire from the physical lever on the steering column and hope it goes to the relay??????????????

Found the flasher, replaced and no difference. Changed front and rear bulbs and problem went away.

Yeah the bulb wasn't even out it was just kinda dim, must have been screwing something up though.

Now I gotta figure out some blocks or something to spread out my tacoma front grille guard so it will fit on the t100.
