...and people who drive BMWs, Audis, Mitsubishis, Mazdas, Fords, or Dodges are any better? You can look up pretty much any modern turbo car and find some info on "staged" power. It's just a common terminology used within that particular car's community to identify a group of parts. I don't understand why it's a bad thing.

It's not a bad thing, as long as you're all speaking the same language. If "Stage 2" means something different to every group of car enthusiasts than the term shouldn't be used when communicating between groups. There has to be a mutual understanding of terms before they can just be thrown around or else it just ends in confusion and disagreements.

its a bad thing because its used within that community. if it wasn't, then that community wouldn't be bad. yes, i acknowledge that it exists in all communities.

i just think it's a poser thing to say. reminds me of the stage upgrades that you achieve for your car after you beat the boss or get a certain amount of money in tokyo extreme racer or gran turismo, or any race related game for that matter.

Meh, I'd take most car communities over a bunch of idiots who think wearing colorful tall tees and sweatshirts outside in winter makes any more sense than talking about staged tuning.

Im a part of a few bmw communities and NEVER come across people saying stages for their cars. Mostly see FBO (full bolt on) used when referencing mods. Or they just put "JB4 + exhaust, etc.." in the subject. Stages seem to be used by JDM cars more than German.

Maybe they can't afford to run Dinan parts? Who knows? People always say it here. "Bro, I just went Dinan stage 2 with full bolt ons and my 335 pulls SO hard, ALL the way through the power band now." I'm not trying to argue with you, but people who say it's only a JDM thing are kidding themselves.

I haven´t seen any "stage-talk" on the bimmer forums i visit either. Its mostly just listing whatever parts are installed and how much power it puts out.

I have never once heard of a jap being a "stage" whatever.

Alright, but the point I was making is that different turbobacks can change power, different intakes can change power, and definitely ECU tunes can change power. I mean, you can have one kid who through a K&N filter into his stock intake, put an catted Ebay turboback on, and 'stage 2' tuned it with his accessport...but then you can have a kid who put an AEM cold air intake on, an Inividia catless TBE, and then went and got it dynotuned 'stage 2'. They're both going to drastically differ in power, so why refer using stages if every setup differs? It doesn't make sense.
My "Stock beater shitbox wagon"? I mean it's close to stock. Sorry I don't have mommy and daddy buying me things for my car and have an STi swap in there the month after I got it. Beater...my 2004 WRX wagon with under 125,000 miles that runs perfectly is a beater...makes sense.
Ok, and it was Ebay. Not Craigslist. Come on.

GENERALLY SPEAKING, here is what the various stages are:

Stage 0 = engine management alone
Stage 1 = engine management alone
Stage 2 = turboback exhaust + engine management
Stage 2+ = stage 2 + a few other bolt ons
Stage 4 = small bolt on turbo+ fueling + turboback exhaust + engine management
Stage 5 = anything above stage 4

While these are generalizations, DO NOT fall into the trap of labeling your car as a "Stage X" and expect people to magically know what you are talking about. Post specifics such as "I have a Cobb Stage 2" or "I have a TurboXS Stage 4", or better yet...forget stages and post 100% of your mods.

one of my favorite legacy generations. Definitely a fan of the 2.5gt.

Id look to space the rear wheels out some. Plasti-dip black wheels wont look right with those. Maybe check out painting them gunmetal metallic instead.

Ya I guess.. still, people I know usually just explain their setup when asked.

But yes, I would say, "built 2.3 liter." Then go on about what else I have unless they really want me to name the internals I am using and such.

yeah would've gone with the GT but it wasn't in the right price/too many miles range. and yeah I've been searching the legacygt forums and gathering idea's, the plasti-dip wheels don't look too bad if you do it right, we'll see... if it doesn't I can just peel it off! haha

Yeah, Previous owner didn't have the badge on it, but I put it back on. I love the car, Everyone tries to compare it to an STI or EVO, but it's really in a class of it's own. Feels more like it Belongs in the Audi S-S line than anything else.

exactly, vw/audi are much more luxury based sporty cars than mitsubishi and subaru.

the golf r is "fully loaded" as base at $47000 cdn, and while it is powerful, its vienna leather and a whole bunch of convenience bullshit on the inside

the "fully loaded" wrx sti has a few exterior upgrades, and you can upgrade to a short throw shifter, and a shifter brushing, and is priced at $52000 cdn

the "fully loaded" evo mr has upgradable front/rear strut braces, front/rear air dams, brake air guides, and intercooler pipes, and is priced at $71000 cdn


the sti and the evo are more of a "go fast and high performance!" whereas the golf r is more of a "go fast and be comfy and classy as shit"

in my opinion of course, i have a very limited knowledge on the sti and evo, but that is what i have gathered from the opinions of others, as well as my own experiences in vw/audis

Not sure if i want to try and find a not so beat on older STI, or get a 2013 subaru wrx wagon. Just cant really decided. Or maybe an Audi. Decisions decisions. The car will be my DD and it seems like people dont get STI's for there DD's a lot of times.

Honestly, I don't see the point in buying a 2013...if you want the new body style just get an 08-12. But I'd go with a hawkeye STi if I were you.

love the hawkeye, when i worked at the ford dealership in the automall by my house, there was the sickest stanced, stormtroopered white sti, kept the upper roof spoiler, took off the trunk one, put on the lower lip, dropped it an inch or two, wish i had pics of it, soooo sick

because a 2.7 litre biturbo v6 or a 4.2 litre v8 has WAAYYYYY better fuel economy than the 2.5litre turbo in the sti... its a daily driver

If your worried about about fuel economy get a Prius. I just said rs4 because I saw one today and it was pretty awesome. I would go older, low miles STI. Save a bunch or money if you can find one worth it and not beat to hell.

I would just go with the wrx, it that extra 40hp is really worth an extra 8 or 10 grand or whatever it is, then go for it. Subie would be cheaper to maintain and less of a headache over the Audi.

it's more than just 40hp. The block has nicer internals, nicer brakes, bigger intercooler, way better suspension, dccd tranny, bbs wheels, gucci interior. And it has a pink STI badge.
