my allroad dumps itself if you dont drive it for over 24 hours, the bags leak so some mornings ill go to drive it and it will be slammed, its kind of dope because the bags fill right back up when u start it up

detroit front, lockright rear. dont really see a need for air lockers so i just kept it cheap. its an 85 4runner so ill have a little more room to do an internal cage, but i like the idea of having sime extra tubing saving the body from tree and rock rash with an exo. that om617 engine is just as bulletproof as any toyota engine, i want to go diesel and toyota's diesels arnt the greatest and they are really hard to come by and i know a few people who love that engine in their toyota's. do you have the stock trunnion setup or are you running an eliminator kit with those bigger tires?

Yeah, I am completely aware of the circumstances of his trade, and his rationale (which I agree with, who wouldn't want the chance to own a V12 F-car, especially since buy-in costs are comparatively great).

For the sake of your comparison though... it wasn't just any 997. The RS 4.0 represents the pinnacle of porsche's translation of a production circuit car for road use... and coming from a place of some experience in comparable cars (rs 3.8 vs 599), I'd be fairly hard-pressed to justify the trade..

Again, this is completely subjective, and both cars are very, very competent... just different in their delivery. I guess I'm just more of a purist at heart, with a soft-spot for the 911.

Wise choice: my rear air locker had a leak that could have resulted in some serious shit during one of our ascents up Mt. Baldy. It's fixed now and when they work right, they're amazing, but they can be a real pain in the ass. To be honest, I'll probably just stick with e-lockers from now on.

Well, you'll have to keep me updated on your cage. I'm interested to see what you choose and how it turns out!

Yeah, Toyota diesels are not cheap, that's for sure... I could talk about that shit for ages, haha. I just about imported a really clean 1980 BJ41 with less than 20,000km from Japan. $$$$$$

I've got Trail Gear's Rock Assault kit. What about you?

Im running beefier bearings right now and with 35s and the 22re havnt run into any issues, but will likely upgrade to that and get some 6 stud knuckles when i move up to 37s. probably going to link the front this winter too

I answered your original question - but then it seemed like you wanted to get in to some kind of big 911 vs the world internet debate / argument which is pointless - and i simply cannot be bothered with, nor have the time. It's too subjective like you said.

you said you have a soft spot for 911's.... that's great - so do many of my friends, they're great cars.... go get one (although you already did apparently)... it's a great feeling owning a car that you have always wanted and that makes you feel awesome. I have a soft spot for Ferrari's, AMG's and GT cars in general... not track monsters.

Now, why don't you get some pics of your motor up for us to look at if you haven't already? I'm a car fan, so if you haven't already, let's see your 911...?

I like driving track monsters on the street, thats just me though. First super car I pick up will be turned immediately into a track monster and look like it shouldnt even be driven on the street but I will.. Im gonna post something in a minute thats gonna make some of you guys shit a few bricks :) if you know anything about cars that is. hehe

My last post conveyed my opinion, and stated clearly that I thought the whole thing was very subjective and could not be quantified.. the cars are equally as competent, but different in their intent and delivery.

Really, it seems that you were the aggressor, and wanted to start some sort of debate. I really don't care, but the condescension conveyed in your post of "good for you, go buy your dream car (as I have)" warranted some kind of response.

Maybe you don't realize how you come off?

Oh geez... let it go!!

i didn't mean to be "aggressive" FFS... Calm down! I listen to all that 911 GT3 RS stuff every time i mention to anyone i'm not their biggest fans.... can't be bothered debating it. They're great cars - but wouldn't be my first buying choice personally - not in N America - way too over priced.

now leave it. you were right - they're not even comparable cars.....

besides the distributor, spark plugs/wires, tires and AN fittings this car is 100 percent original. Oh and the paint... 1 of 3 of these bad boys left might even be less than 3 now. thats 3 in the world! :)

3 cobras? I feel like thats wrong. I saw 4 in the last month driving around in New Hampshire of all places. I know there are kit cars but I didn't think these were. I know there aren't many original cobras left but three seems way to low of a number.

There are many real ones left but not like this one. This was one of Carol Shelby's daytona/indy test cars(experimental car). This was a real race car not one built for the car enthusiast to buy. A shelby of the same year and style, one of the other 3 or 4 left just went at auction for 5 million..

It's a long story that starts with me crashing my car (embarrassingly enough).  I rear ended someone while being an idiot.  Lesson learned. 

Anyways, it was a blessing in disguise and gave me an opportunity to rebuild the entire front end.  It's now full custom, tube framed front end.  Built by Joey Kale of Kale's Custom in Colchester, VT.  Only thing that was salvageable from the front end was the bumper.  New hood, fenders, radiator, etc.  Since it needed all that I decided to just repaint the whole car.  That's when things started to get fun.  We realized it was the same cost to swap to a steel impreza non-scooped hood and fabricate a fully custom intercooler.  With the new tube frame the radiator now sits much closer to the engine, and is aluminum so disperses heat better (answering the question above this one) and also is huge so gets a lot of air through the bumper. 

I agree with you that there's no reason for a FMIC, but there was also no reason NOT to in this situation, and yes, it adds to the whole custom look.  What's nice is it runs fine with my current setup, but when I want to swap to VF48 and more fuel, it will be perfect.

makes sense now. you should swap to a lower end garett vs. a vf48. you can usually find ones in great shape on craigslist for just a little bit more than vf's
