hey, if your car makes you happy keep on given'er man. New sti's are nice and all but the ownerbase can be unbearable at times but that is besides the point. You enjoy your car, thats all that counts.
Just dont shit on my old car and not expect me to fire back at you.
Holy shit, a car argument that ended in mutual agreement? Not gonna lie, I'd drive a k20a swapped and gutted crx. They run balls. Or an AWD civic wagovan just for teh lulz.

so are a lot of you guys pulling out loans for your cars. like ones over 8 grand+? or just savin up for a couple years?
i would like to get a subie or audi by next summer, and i move back to the states right now and don't have a job lined up. so i wouldn't be able to save up for awhile once i got a job.
I'm looking for cars and plan to pay cash for the next one. Likely in the range of around $8k-10k. There's something to be said about not having to make car payments (or paying interest on a loan if you don't have to).
This is one option but saving for 4 years isn't feasible for a lot of people especially if they need a vehicle - Financing options for new cars and used cars are pretty damn good as long as your not taking out a loan for a car you can't afford
I bought my jeep with a used auto loan of about $12,000 through my credit union (so much better than a banks) and was only paying 4.75% interest. I had the option of paying it off at $350/mo but bumped it up to $465 a month and only ended up paying about $300 in interest over the entire life of the loan - I paid my jeep off in just under 2 years
But yeah not having monthly payments is so freakin awesome - plus you get to dump all that extra savings into your ride
Honestly thought I wouldn't run into a maintanance issue so soon but it looks and sounds like the 3rd gear synchro is going. Since I dont feel like double clutching Im gonna have to get it replaced. If any of the NHers that frequent this thread have a buddy or mechanic that could do it for cheaper that the stealership/mechanic I would be forever in your debt. From what I've read it can be from 800-3500 to replace. Thats almost what I got the car for.
Maybe its not the synchro but whenever Im in 3rd and decelerate it makes a whining noise. Any help/advice would be appreciated.
Syncro's usually grind when you first go into a gear. They are used to help match up the speed of the input shaft and the speed of the layshaft.
My car whines very slightly when decelerating in 2nd. I would hit up a VW forum and ask around before you take it to a shop. It could just be the way it is. I'm not too familiar with VW's so I can give you a surefire answer as to what it is.
Alright I'll look into it. I have a "look over" scheduled at the dealership tomorrow. Based on what they tell me I may be hitting up this Sam fellow.
The guy that owned the car before me owned if from 17,XXX and babied the shit out of it (synthetic every 3,000, only replaced rear breaks 10,xxx ago from stock). Im thinking it could also maybe be the clutch but you guys are right, Im gonna have it checked out before I jump to any conclusions.
go to your local graphics shop that sells vinyl and get transparent red 8300 series. its a thinner vinyl than the blue batmobile overylay (which im guessing that it) and it wont wrinkle at the edges if put on right with a heat gun/blow drier. i have yet to see a precut overlay that doesnt have creases and folds on the edges
thats what i thought the first 5 times it saw them on cars, yet all of them were "professionally" installed at shops, yet they all were wrinkled. i work wrapping cars, these things or horrible and overpriced to aids
and to all the people dissing it saying it's "unfunctional or "can't go anywhere in the mountains" just stop, there is a wonderful thing on this car called coilovers, they are adjustable, he doesn't have to be that low all the time if he doesn't want to.
not sure if this is his summer set up or not but I have a lot of friends that go low in the summer then just raise it right back up for winter with winter wheels and tires
