From what I know the 2.0 is more prone that the 2.5 but I guess we'll see what happens. It's going to be a brand new shortblock with new turbo, top feed injector conversion, fuel pump, oil pump, and gaskets.
not shitting on your car or anything, just pointing out that STi's are not the worlds greatest automobile. They have a fucking PILE of mechanical problems.
If you use forged internals and beefier bearings on a engine build you should no problems.... but subaru cheaped out on the guts of that motor so they fail like its going out of style.
moar sti fun. I just like raining on ns'ers STi bonertown. Again, not saying your spun bearing WRX car is a bad car... I like WRX and STi's but just something about the blind love on this forum for them makes me mental.
That's the exact knock that I had. I do have a choice, I can either rebuild with some solid internals or I can get a new shortblock and a rather conservative tune which is what I'm leaning towards now. Plus if I rebuild I have to stay 2.0 which I don't really want to do.
rebuild the thing. WRX engines are time bombs even in stock form. I was reading a review of the 2011 STi and they dyno base mapped the car with 91 octane and it was knocking BAD on the dyno.
I would rebuild a blown 2.5 if you can find one and have a second car.
That's the thing I don't exactly have the timeframe for rebuilding either.. I've got work 3-4 days a week 45 min from where I live and no way to get there. I don't know we'll see what happens.
A huge majority of the problems with rod knock/ fucked up valve timing come from people who try and go stage 2 without a tune. The EJ series motor has a part in the ECU that monitors and corrects rod knock. When they put a downpipe/up pipe/headers pretty much any power mods the engine misreads the info being sent to it and doesnt correct the knock like it should, giving your engine the reliability of a fiat.
yep- not mine just some inspiration- saw it at formula D this weekend.
Motor is completly torn apart still havent bought a car to put it in but after this weekend and seeing soo many monster im thinking either high compression race gas monster or slap a pair of turbos on which means more time to wait as Im trying notto blow all of my money on thi, at least not until school is done
all around car, strip, street, and a little bit of track however they arent the best chassis for the circuit. And now definetly drift, I was at formula d this last weekend in jersey, seriously some of the sickest shit I have ever seen
and...the post I've been waiting for...my 6000th, dedicated to my 4runner...4.5 years after the post on page 7 of this thread, and 12 years after I bought her, she's still my daily driver!
I third this.
I love that sound like you wouldn't believe. But, racing your mothers car on the street? Just stupid. If it was your car, then take it to a track day and have some fun. Don't do that with someone else's car. Let alone your own. Be a man. Be a citizen. Don't race on the streets.
