CirilloOne of my favorite pick ups.
Ford has really been killing it. Focus RS is going to be amazing.
dane_wizwillardin the next couple months I want to find a clean 240 with a dohc engine so I can start a daily drift build for the remainder of the season. I also want to find a nissan d21 hardbody with 4x4 for work purposes and ski hills.
I like nissan.
Titus69Dont buy one already swapped with a boosted sr20 or ka24 since the owners just thrash them doing mad skids, also rust is hell on 240s.
LonelyNeed some advice asap. Just found a 85 Porsche 944, perfect condition with 50k miles. Can it survive driving in winter? Can I get a rack for the top? (it has bucket seats so no trunk slot for skis)
Saw it today and it's beautiful.
Not really practical tho
CirilloOfficially got myself a 2015 WRX. Premium trim and came with a factory short throw which is awesome. I'm picking it up from the dealer Saturday.

BenWhitpracticality is for the birds. do it.
awesome! personally, I haven't been a huge fan of the WRX styling but for some reason, I like the STI (basically a WRX with a big wing). The WRX is growing on me. Also, when i encounter a rex driver, there is a mutual respect between us and our cars. obivously, the subi platform is great for modding. Good luck!
Titus69A kid on here has a beautiful 944 its probably fine to drive to the hill when the roads aren't shitty but otherwise just make sure you have good snow tires, I love 944s they're easily my favorite Porsche besides a gt3 or 911 turbo. I drove a Volvo 240 for two seasons with snow tires and I made it fine on a couple snow days but you have roughly 3x the power than I did.
LonelyOkay three options currently
04 Land Rover Discovery-80k
85 Porsche 944-59k
2003 BMW 330 or 530-115k
I need a car to take me to the mountain 40 minutes away in michigan weather.
BenWhitA couple things to consider...
1. Cost & availability of parts when the Porsche breaks. It will, it's 30yrs old.
2. AWD trumps all in snow. What trim is the 330? xi? Also, what motor?
3. Land Rover - gas mileage is horrendous.
Things I consider when buying a car...
1. How much fun is it to drive?
2. Aftermarket part availability & platform is tolerant of modifications?
3. Is it a manual?
4. Will it kill me in the winter?
5. Can i jam my skis in it?
LonelyWell I have a friend with a 85 911 and he can get parts for porsche. Well my forester already get like 11mpg city

Caucasian_AsianI don't think I would choose any of those.
Why are those your only choices?

dane_wizwillardI'm not too worried about a car doing skids as long as the frame is straight. If I can find a boosted schassis by summer you better believe i'll be buying it, because i'm already planning on getting an extra diff, a tranny and a clutch if it's a clean running engine. If not it'll just get a ls and put that in there.
rust is meh, I know where to look and what cover up jobs look like on frame rails. I know a guy who I could pay $200 and get him to redo my wells if need be, it's just the rear rockers I think that are the real issue. for how hard i've worked to get the money, i'm going to be pretty picky though.
If you have good, cheap ways to get it running and working better than do it. Ive just seen my friend go through 3 240s with sr20s and have them break multiple times, he now has a rhd s13 with an rb25 roughly 400hp but thinks hes fuckin DK but hardly does drift events. He mostly has it for occasional street drifting and hard parking.

you nailed it on the last part. 944's are cool, and it probably would get you up a ski hill and back but it would probably cost a fucking fortune for just one season.
LonelyWell I've found a 944 and a 04 land rover disco for great prices near me. Which would you go with preschoolers?
Charlie*I had a Land Rover Disco II. Absolute tank in the snow, will get you to the mountain no matter what the conditions. Fairly resistant to rust, all aluminum body, and an aluminum engine block/heads (scrap yards love Disco's). Well built rig, but can be expensive to fix. There known for having problems with the rear air ride suspension, so if you do buy it, I'd look into a coil conversion kit (they're pretty cheap if I remember right). Nice interior, lots of features, mine was very reliable; really liked the truck. The down side is that your looking at about 14mpg going downhill with a tailwind. If that doesn't bother you I'd say pick one up in a heartbeat.
LonelyWell because they are in my price range, fairly unique and are close to me. What would you choose?
LonelyHow long did a tank last for you?
BrentizzleI haven't posted here pretty much since last summer. well here is my car as of right now. love it or hate it. it gets attention and makes me happy because everything from the wrap to the widebody was done by me.
RusselCroweNot a fan of the stretched tires or wheels but everything else looks pretty fucking sick! Is it a speed3 or just a base model?
BrentizzleYou aren't a fan of wheels in general or just my wheels? lol. Its just a regular 3.

RusselCroweFan of the car but not a fan of those specific wheels.

car came with turbo back cobb exhaust, intake, and accessport. i put the 18x8 gt7's with bf goodrich g-sport's on along with the roof rack. next on the list is some lower stiffer springs, front and back sway bars, wing delete, full invidia N1 exhaust, new UEL headers, full vinyl wrap, front lip, rear diffuser, big brakes, sti intercooler, light weight pulley cuz this one squeaks, probably a real tune somewhere down the road too. anyway, i love this car. so much more fun than my duramax was.

BenWhitI like it. don't buy a new exhaust tho, go coilovers instead. save your money, buy a DP & racepipe if need be, but save the money and put it towards a decent coilover kit. depending on the miles, you'll want/need to replaces stuts soon anyway. Also, Cobb makes some of the best parts money can buy. I love the novelty of building my own car, but you'd be downgrading. Only thing I didn't like about this model year was how high the car sat. For it's length, it sits pretty high. I'm also a big proponent of spending $ on power upgrades before looks. Make that thing fucking whip!

Brule.I need help, NS. I'm looking for a car this summer and making a thread about this seems fucking pointless for me to do, so that's why I'm posting in this thread. My max budget is $5k for a car. What do you guys recommend for a good first car in that budget range?
Titus69Dont get something exactly $5k. Do you care if its fwd awd or rwd? Do you drive far distances?
Brule.I prefer either fwd or awd, and I drive far distances on occasion for work, skiing, etc. Like I said, my max budget is $5k, but I'd like to stay under that amount.
RusselCroweI like it but why the fuck would you take the cobb exhaust off? They look and sound so much better than the n1.

xX*TACO-DOG*Xxmeh i like the look of a big ol fart can lol.
coilovers would be nice but that's something i don't want to cheap out on so it'll be a while before i start looking at a set. and like i said i kinda like the look of a big tip exhaust. but yeah i was going to focus on handling and bracing before i put anymore hp into it. it just doesn't really make sense to have a quick car that handles like a bag of dicks.

mmallender.im partially with the other guys, keep the higher performance exhaust, i mean if youre really going for looks, modify the exhaust tip rather than spend money to downgrade to a lower performance exhaust system because you like the look of the tip better...
absolutely handling/wheels before power, what good is having a huge bump in horsepower/torque if you cant use it?
Titus69That exhaust already on there sounds and looks sick, if you get an n1 exhaust with nothing else (headers, resonators) it sounds raspy on a wrx at high rpm's. Im still jelly I dont have a wrx or a cool car by any means.
mmallender.i meant that HE liked the way the n1 sounds and looks over the cobb that came on his car. personally i would go cobb over the n1 as well, especially because the cobb is going to work better with the accessport
Titus69I like n1's sound on most cars but unless he gets uel headers itll be raspy at high rpms. They just look bad when the whole muffler is out there.
Granite_StateFart cannons
BenWhitwhat's under the hood? nothing grinds my gears more than a car with $10K worth of rims, bodywork, & air-ride with a bone stock engine. Might not be my style, but you're definitely crushing the look you're going for, congrats!

BrentizzleWould it surprise you if I said I have put just over $2k into this car? Everything is done by myself and I've managed to get get deals/sponsorships where ever possible.
Its a normal 2.3L mazda 3 with an intake and exhaust and that oil cooler. Lots of custom diy suspension mods and a big beefy skid plate. Its on raceland ultimo coilovers (say what you want but they ride fine and get low). I wrapped the car myself and did the widebody myself. The company that makes my wheels sponsored my car so I got like 70% off.
I love when people ask me where it was built or who wrapped it or how much I've spent and I blow their minds. Resourcefulness goes a long way. I'm getting a set of corbeau RRS racing seats in exchange for some video work as well.
Thanks for appreciating my car for what it is. I'm super happy with it!
