i mean overall with these cars like evos or stis if there lowered properly im fine with it. but for some reason without the wing on it just looks like a normal sedan unless you have an evo x mr that come without the wing. im still jealous no matter what
New rims and I've painted the bumpers to match the body which came out rad. My whole rig is black along with the rims. Im psyched. I have a 3 inch lift and a flowmaster waiting to be put on when I have the time. Just ordered a prerunner bumper from calmini that I can't wait to get but the wait time is redic. Then will be new tires. I've had it a year and just stared thinking about mods really. I love it. I'll post a pic when I get to my computer. If you're looking for any ideas you should check out thenewx.org or club xterra. Both great for info and ideas!
so you'd rather have a car that blows at all kinds of driving purely for the sake of the wheel being closer to the fender so it looks "good"? i get lowered cars, they look better and to a point they will perform better as well. but i agree with the other guy, slamming a previously very capable sports car on stretched ass tires and buttfucked geometry just makes no sense.
The definition of what makes "sense" is very, very subjective. I don't like stance. I don't like tucked wheels, stretched tires, "poke," or any of that nonsense. However, just because I wouldn't do that to my car doesn't mean I can't see why other people like it. This whole notion of "you must buy a car for what it was 'intended' for" is so fucking stupid. Most cars sold to the public are "intended" for daily street use. Just because some are better than others at off-roading or track racing does not mean that is what they were designed for, so why doesn't it make sense to mod them in unique ways? People who look at certain cars and say they are "ruined" or "broken" just shows how fucking ignorant and stupid they are, yourself included.
I also think people without much knowledge or experience here are confusing two different facets of car modding:
1. "slamming" an econobox on chopped springs/racelands with improperly fitting wheels/rubber = not racec0r handling
2. "slamming" a performance car on properly spec'd suspension, usually with the necessary upgrades to bushings/swaybars/geometry = probably better than stock..
What's wrong with having a fucking opinion. Are we supposed to look at every rusty civic with a mismatched, different color body kit falling off the car, red peeling tint and a can and not judge it because it's that drivers preference?
Some cars and their drivers choices on what to do with that car are just pure shitty taste. And I have no problem saying it when I see it.
In the case of stanced evos, m3s etc.. Your taking a car that is extremely capable in stock form, dumping tons of money into it, and making it perform like shit. Just for the sake of appearance, and IMO, that "look" just looks like some Ghetto Mexican body shop got ahold of your car.
I'm fine with people doing it to their VWs and cruiser cars that were never capable of much performance anyway.
I just have a hard time "accepting" peoples decision to turn a fantastic car into a POS purely so they can look good. I almost always like any kind of car enthusiast, but when you completely kill the driving side to create something that sits in parking lots well. I'm going to judge you, sorry for having an opinion.
How the fuck do you know what suspension they're running? Maybe they're on a full Ohlins race setup with all the supporting mods that happens to be low because they spun the coils all the way down for a show. This may surprise you, but there are suspension setups out there that are *GASP* better than stock. Even for your precious Evos and M3s. It's phenomenal that someone as braindead as yourself is able to even form an opinion, but yes, I'm still going to judge you for being a complete fucking retard.
I've lurked on thenewx for years now, lots of good info there. I'm currently on 32" Duratracs, and with my ski rack on I only have a 1/2" of height clearance with my garage. So no lift or larger tires until I move out of my current place. I've looked at some front/rear bumpers in the past as well, but still haven't considered them necessary at this point. I'm currently looking for a fun daily driver to keep the miles off my xterra. So I probably won't spend any money on upgrades for a while.
Besides the tire upgrade, the only things I have done are remove the splash guards and debadged the large pro4x badge on the rear.
^this so much, it is possible to lower a car without just cutting the springs with a hacksaw
I autox my car and there was an evo there at the beginning of the season with stock suspension, by the end of season he had put on coilovers( cant remember what type). The result both his car and his times were lower after he put on the coilovers
I'm willing to take a crazy guess and bet that these guys running stretched and poked wheels/tires, spending all their time at kewl car meets and running fucked geometry to run those wheels and get that cool in a parking lot appearance. Aren't running a very good quality suspension setup. They're might be a couple exceptions, but hey that's just my completely fucking retarded best guess.
Coilovers and lowering your car can definitely improve the handling like crazy. I'm not denying that. But there's a difference between lowering and slammed. You get to a point where the geometry gets completely fucked.
In every car scene there are those people that just do things wrong and buy shitty stuff and try to look cool. That always happens no matter what. Surprisingly, a lot of shitty coilovers still handle better than stock (not all but a lot).
And who cares if somebody wants a cool parking lot appearance? Have you ever heard of a show car? Believe it or not, some people actually don't care about the driving experience but like to make there car look how they want it to look.
Just look at the words "car show" it's a show where you fucking look at cars, therefore you make your car look how YOU want it to look.
/winter mode. blizzaks and ski rack, im set. probably not gonna raise it anymore, see this bad bitch at alta on the snowiest of days. driver skill and a well balanced car is really all you need.
Rwd in snow is completely fine. With good snows and a hint of car control you'll be good.
And speaking of miatas in snow, me and a couple friends were driving around on some unplowed narrow dirt roads with a good 16-20" of snow. He was in his lowered miata on snow tires, and I was with my friend in his XC70 with nice studded snow tires (nokians) we got to a decently steep slope, the miata blasted through without much of a run at it. And the XC70 with a big run and miata plowed path couldn't make it, took us 4 tries, the terrible awd system wouldn't let you just hammer it and blast through with wheels spinning, it kept braking individual wheels trying to limit wheelspin till it eventually slowed to a stop, the car basically said fuck it.
So there a lowered track prepped miata on snows beat one of the most popular AWD, highest ground clearance, safety wagons that people get for those conditions.
How do you like your miata? Im planning on buying a NA pretty soon.I've heard that they handle fine with a set of snow tires and a few sandbags in the trunk

She has roof racks on now for the winter, and a new front lip for snowplowing ;P.
Seriously, they do amazingly well, get a good set of skinny snow tires and you're good to go. My friends was low so it'd get bogged down when it got real deep, but just spin the tires till you get to hard ground and it would bite and keep going. Took a lot of snow to get that car stuck
