100% agree. my dad and i have found this out as we try to load the 2-door JK before we go to the boat. i wonder why he didn't get the 4 door, but he wanted the classic 2 door. can't rag on it too bad. i'm probably going to end up with it.

is this a DD or a trail/fun rig? Go with a 2wd tacoma which you can get for next to nothing compared to the 4x4s and do a solid axle swap. Thats what im going to do next after i sell my 4runner. And not the 3.0, find one with the 3.4.

Nice lookin rig..they are impractical in a sense, but I also do not have to use it as a daily driver anymore so my next truck will become more of a weekend toy that has to be reliable enough to get me places..

the cargo room doesnt bother me anymore, I've monstalined the interior so I use it and abuse it as a small pickup truck bed. I've also put a rack on my hardtop with thule ski bars so I can haul 3 pairs of skis on the roof so its actually a pretty badass ski vehicle, tho a little hard to change in - but they do absolutely suck to drive long distance and there is no changing that

it would need to retain its road qualities because it wouldnt be a dedicated trail rig, but it could be taken off the road for weeks at a time with no real harm to my day to day life - perfect excuse for me to do a SAS

did a quick search on some toyota forums and it seems the 2wd -> 4wd conversion especially in the 1st gens which i'm looking at is really popular - guess the conversion would really depend if i can find a good donor/cheap parts at a junkyard around me

1st gen taco right? a lot of tacoma guys have been going with dana axles, usually 60s from the builds i have seen lately. you can get a yota axle (85 is the strongest stock housing year) for less than $300 complete. if you throw a lot of money at them theyll be stronger than a d60, but gets pretty pricey. The 2wds have a bigger notch/bend in the front of the frame because they sit lower than the 4x4s, so you can sit the axle pretty tight up against the body if you want a low rig. glad to see your thinking about making the switch to the good side! haha

i actually think they are 44s, not 60s. you need the 3rd on the driver side unless you want to mess with the rest of the drivetrain to switch sides and use a yota axle

My dad just bought a CTS-V. He had a 2009 6.50Li that he gave to me. Not the best snow car, but fast as fuck. It's drawbacks are gas, insurance, and kids at school wanting to key it. I've gotten in 2 fights so far when I caught the same junior on separate occasions scratching it with 1) a butter knife. 2) a Toyota corolla key.

Tall shifters are gay unless they are sequential gearboxes and they match the height of the steering wheel.

Everything else I like. Stack would be cool if it was routed out the hood.

haha thinkin...we'll see if I pull the trigger on a complete switch. I think if I found a prime condition t100 in my area the discussion would be over in half a second, for some reason I have the biggest soft spot for those trucks

I would enjoy a dedicated bed but its hard to pass up a wrangler in the summertime, especially since I'm at the point in my life where I realize how insanely unsafe a motorcycle is around my area..my jeep pretty much become the closest thing to a motorcycle I'll ever own when I take the top and doors off

I'm a little behind here but check out LJ's (TJ unlimited). They have much more cargo space and a longer wheel base so it rides a lot better than a TJ.

Yeah every guy I know that owns an LJ absolutely loves them for the additional room and better road manners that come with the extended wheelbase but for some reason I think they look kinda goofy

there is a kid on here with a black lifted LJ that looks amazing though

nice. I've always thought the Honda cbr 600rr's are some of the better looking race bikes. By race I just mean in comparison to Yamaha R6's and R1's etc....as opposed to Harley's. I really don't know how they compare in terms of actual racing.

fuck that, keep it as is/make it permanent, chain and all. lose the bungee, shave part of the hatch and weld/bolt/secure/whatever the stack to the area around the hatch!

Definitely get one if you can find one. I drove from PA to the dirty jersey to pick mine up. It's by far the most fun yota I've had so far and that's after an 88 pickup, 91 pickup, 98 taco, and an 89 4runner. It's nice and roomy but not a large truck, and it still has that made in Japan quality.

I'm a sucker for the older yota pickups, if you can find a pretty good one they go forever, two of my previous trucks are still driven by friends and they are both over 300,000 miles. The tacos from 95 all the way to 04 have me nervous with the whole frame rust recall, don't get me wrong my 98 ran great but I ended up having to sell it back due to a huge hole in the frame.

Sidenote: In my opinion that VW up there is Sick.......

and by sick I mean it should be put out to pasture and shot. I don't even understand. To each their own though I guess, I mean VW owners always have been a little odd. What exactly is the point of that shifter anyway?? Just for funky style or what?? Looks like it would be a bitch to drive.

yeah fuck you...I get jealous every time I see you post a pic. I check craigslist sporadically for t100's in my area but they're usually beat on like a red headed step child - I'm itchin to find one in decent condition

Don;t even get me started on rust - I'm freakin anal about rust spots on vehicles that I'm going to buy cause you can never stop it, you can only hope to slow it down

I'm getting rid of my TJ cause of a massive crack in the frame where the upper rear CA mounts to the frame which sucks cause I don't want to sell it 3rd party because of the liability which means I have to go to a dealer and get rooted in the ass - fortunately the time of year for car buying is in my favor
