Deciding between U of M and MSU

Okay I need some help...
I am considering both U of M and MSU for college. I have lots of family in montana, and I love montana itself...
My grandparents live in missoula and I grew up being a Griz fan. So naturally originally I wanted to go to U of M. I toured both of the campus' and liked the tour better at U of M, mainly because the tour guide was way chill at U of M and way annoying at MSU. Anyways, lately I have been looking into ski resorts near these two colleges.. It seems that only snow bowl and lost trail are near U of M, while MSU has Big Sky, moonlight and bridger.
So I want to know more about these resorts, which gets the most snow, which has the best park, etc.
I grew up in utah skiing in Park City and Brighton, so I like to have a nice park, but what I love most is deep powder and dropping cliffs.
So anyways, any help on this subject would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

big sky, moonlight, bridger, beehive, beartooth...

bozeman, no contest.

missoula is legit too, but if you wanna shred, bozeman for sure.

sorry to post twice, but i didn't read the whole thing you wrote, just kinda gave my opinion.

as far as parks go... moonlight will have rails, big sky has jumps, unfortunately they cap them at 35 ft or something, so they're not big. but they make due. in regards to skiing deep powder, and steep lines or cliffs... big sky/moonlight has endless possibilities... and hopefully just as many pow days as last season, it was epic.

MSU is the way to go if you want to ski. Snobowl can be fun, but you are going to be driving quite a way (3 hours) to get good skiing (Lost Trail, Big Mtn, Lookout, Bozeman areas).

You should overnight, tours are a bad measure of a place, and basing your college decision on the tour guide is definitely going to create some problems.

like these guys are saying, definitely bozeman for resorts.

but what you should look at is the majors offered at either school, as they are very different for each.  for instance, msu has engineering and architecture, which um does not.  while um has journalism and forestry, which msu does not.

they are very different academically.

my advice to you is to prioritize academics above skiing. but don't get me wrong, skiing can still have some weight

Skiing-MSU no contest.  Weed is probably equal at both schools.  I have actually seen much better weed in Bozeman than I ever have at U of M.  I'm going to say UM parties harder than we do, but they're main source of entertainment is getting drunk and going to football games, because their team is sick.  Here at MSU, we have skiing to keep us busy so there is less partying.  For girls, I'm going to have to go with UM.  MSU parties are usually at least 70 percent dudes.  Comes with the territory.

Thanks for the feedback... yeah I have looked at both schools academically as well. My majors I have been thinking of are Psychology and business. I know both schools have both, although UM has a better business.
And thanks for answering another question I had but didn't really ask. The night life, which seems not to be lacking.

I have a friend who is about to graduate from MSU with a psychology degree, and her summary of it seemed to be along the lines of a one-classroom show that is somewhat lacking.

Im sorry but thats wrong. Business at msu is top notch. They place in like the top 10 percent of schools. Number 5 in the nation for Entreprenuirship. SOrry about the spelling. Anyways Business at msu is way good and better than UM. That is all..................

And skiing is wayyyyy better. Go bridgerbowl if your looking to become an amazing skier. Theres a lot of shit that is still scary to me, you just have to know the mountain.

if you want to party, UM all the way, Griz game weekends fuck ur shit up and most all of the regular season games are before the first snowfall so theres nothing else to do, might as well crush at 9am gameday

All I "know" is that life is fragile and short and I might not wake up tomorrow. And if that happens, I'd rather go skiing than do my Spanish paper or worry about my grades. If you don't take tomorrow for granted, then life becomes a lot simpler.

True.  If you want to get real shitty alot and drink yourself to a stupor starting at 9 AM, please go to UM.  If you want to smoke weed with real chill kids and ski and party at night, go to MSU.

haha, I love the tasteless bash here. Its almost as if youve had bad experiences with people who get drunk at 9am and simply like to do what they think is fun on a fall saturday morning.

 Haha, then the reference about how smoking weed is more chill and then skiing and partying are associated with how chill msu is. Well i would like to see you go skiing in the fall where there is no snow. Majority of the areas in montana dont start to run until the end of the first semester so by that time students dont really get to start skiing until second semester which at UM doesnt start until the 26th of Janurary, unless your are an MT native, but that wouldnt be the case for this debate. So generally when second semester starts, we infact dont get drunk at 9am, we party at night, smoke weed if your into it, and the craziest part is we go skiing at resorts that dont even compare to what big sky and moonlight have. I guess we just have to make do with what we have, but its cool im "chill" with that...

What are you referencing here? As far as I can tell, you are right, but they don't compare because Big Sky and Moonlight have a lot more gnarly terrain.

Drop the MSU vs. UM feud. It's stupid and pointless. I root against the Griz because some of my friends are in their marching band, and if they have a good season, my friends don't come home for as many breaks. That's the only reason.

I really enjoyed my time at U of M. Skied quite a bit while I was there and as a kid from the East Coast, I loved every second of it. Can't really speak about Bozeman because I never made it over there to ski/party/etc.

And the Griz/Cat rivalry is really fun when they play each other in football.

haha, truth. i said fuck it this year and took a roadtrip to breck... way better weekend than being a drunken idiot in missoula while the griz kicked our asses.

bobcat football is pretty much a joke. i'd much rather be skiing...

1. skiing at MSU is better, but don't forget about our proximity to Silver, Big Mountain and a few other areas.

2. academics at UM are better for your majors. the MSU business program is really good for entrepeneurship (sorry I can't spell that word... I'm not in that department, clearly) and for business as a whole, but the UM programs are equally as good. Plus, we have that Entertainment Management certificate and really cool placement programs that coincide with your major.

3. nightlife is hands down UM. We get ridiculous.

4. UM Athletics. Yes, please.

5. Coming from CA, everyone said I would like Bozeman better. But I love love love Missoula and couldn't imagine living in Bozeman. It's got a lot more personality and opportunities to seak out fun shit to explore. Mind you that ranges from the local authors to Stocks (my bar. MY bar.) to floating Jonsrud.

Either way you'll be happy. Montana is a great place to be and I feel fortunate every day that I found Missoula 4 years ago. I could not be happier with my college experience and completely adore everything about it.

i just spent 4.5 years in Missoula and it was the time of my life lolo and lost trail are fun places to ski and for whoever said bozeman is the place to go to smoke weed and chill I would half to say you are sadly mistaken. a large portion of my friends were from bozeman and the surrounding areas and they all agreed missoula was a much chiller place to be compared to bozeman

As far as academics go, I read last year that MSU was better than U of M, and obviously UM has better athletics.  I do agree that Missoula is a better college town and does indeed have more fun parties, but that's because they don't have to get up in the morning to go skiing.

Well it seems that the smartet choice for me would be to go with UM. I sent in my applications for both schools already but I'm fairly certain I will get accepted.

missoula is way more chill than bozeman and if you know where to go there is some sick cliffs and steeps out of bounds at snowbowl!!! i am sponsored and i havent hit most of it. and the zootown is way sick, campus is awesome, river to swim, way better than bozeman. and snowbowl is getting a somewht legit park this yr.

first of all, i'm guessing you have never enven been to bozeman.. second of all if you know where to go there are sick cliff and steeps EVERYWHERE. third of all, fucking cool! you're sponsored, no way! lastly, snowbowl is most likely NOT going to get any sort of legit park this year.. and if you are honestly trying to compare snowbowl to any of the three public mtns in bozeman, you're an idiot.

So yeah, i got accepted and got a leadership scholarship thing. So yeah pretty much I am going to go there. Snowbowl sounds like it will be legit. I spend most of my time out of bounds anyway. So yeah, anyone at UM know what dorm I should go with? I was thinking Jesse, Miller or Aber...

Aber all the way!! I was in Aber for one and a half years... Loved it for these reasons:

1. You get to know all the kids in Aber pretty well because you are the students AWAY from all the other dorms... makes it a lot easier to make friends. P.S. the other dorms like Craig and Miller are where the retard jocks live - stay away!!

2. WAY closer to the rec center, football stadium and pool! (I never used to swim but I found that making time to swim a couple days a week not only kept me more in shape but also relieved A LOT of stress).

3. Lots more parking.  All my other friends were always complaing about the parking situation over by their dorms.  They could never find a spot!

4. More food options close by.  The main campus building (University Center) is right next door and has a couple different places to get food a lot later at night than the Food Zoo.  I like eating at the Food Court a lot better anyway because there is a lot more to choose from.  Definitely go for the all-campus meal plan.

5. Pool hall, X-Box and huge flat screen TV are also in the University Center.  I was quite the pool shark my freshman and sophomore years!

6. Jesse Hall is the ghetto... seriously.

Anyone else want to make their case for one of the other dorms, GO AHEAD!!  Hope this helps you out a little bit! :)
