Mohan Ski/Board School @ Summit central

My GF was a ski instructor for the pass directly, they dont get paid shit, but, I've heard its way better to be with like mohan or some other private deal. Its a good way to get a pass, I think. Its not a huge commitment anyway.

just be wary of webbski instructors, theyve got girls there that will say theyre 17 and then you go hang out with them and youre like well this is cool and then 3 days later your boss will be like, so ive been talking with Mike Webb and he wants me to pass the message that he doesnt want you disappearing with his 15 year old instructors and bringing them back drunk any more and youre like well that blows dogs for quarters and then youll go cry in shame for a couple days and remember why they call it no ass pass and realize that you got played by a 15 year old. just a heads up for ya.

many many years ago (talking like 15 years or so) John Mohan lived across the street from some very good friends of mine, so I met him a couple times, pretty sure I skied with him a few times.  Seemed like a nice guy, I see the Mohan instructors all over the mountain.  Probably an ok outfit to work for.

Work for the mountain, Mohan is some bullshit.

You get paid even less, have to pay for your pass don't get 50% off food and you don't get to ski other mountains fo free

yeah i'm a little curious about the dude running the show nowadays, he seems a little hardcore for my taste... but i think i'd dig teaching some little ones how to ski for a couple hours on the weekends...
yeah it blows they still make you pay for the season pass, and instructor insurance on top of that... but shit anything is better than the 400 bones it costs normally
i'm just hoping i'm not going to look like a dick out on the hill for being with a school with a bad rep... but seems that they are alright. some of the other private schools are waaay worse than what i've seen at mohan so far...

as for the 15 year olds... i'll watch my back, thanks for the heads up... but i think most nights i'll be heading into the bar after work, so i should be all good... some of those snow bunnies are misleading with all the gear... haha made some bad decisions in the past...

I teach for a private school as well, and its gotta be better than working for the Summit.  I've listened to them teach and they're retarded.  They throw you out there with as many people as possible, so the lessons aren't very personal and honestly not helpful.  IMO smaller classes are the key to improving skiers.  As well, you're more likely to have parents who are interested in their kids skiing well at a private school vs. people that just show up in starter jackets and jeans tucked into their boots....

On the pass thing, $54 is the cost for the discounted pass and you supposedly can't use it at Alpental in Jan and Feb on weekends.  No offense, but Alpental on weekends sucks anyways, so who cares?  There's huge lines.  I love me some Alpy, but maybe during the week instead.....

$54 for a season of free night skiing alone is worth it....

Just my opinion though....

Working at summit = more/harder work but muuuch better benefits.

Also, I'd rather buy a full price pass than work for that mohan bullshit, everyone I know who does that hates it

Yeah, concession schools have to pay an 'admin fee' to get their instructor passes.  So after I outlay $50, I've got a pass that allows me to ski for free.  Sorry Mr. Technical.

i appreciate the feedback.. i had the first round of clinics yesterday, and it wasn't too bad... they teach some really good classes, if you're into the technical type of shit... but i can see how it might wear on people pretty thin after a full season of dealing with small kids on the hill. after about the 23rd time i heard them explain how to deal with disgruntled parents or crying kids, i just about wanted to shoot myself. i just hope to god that i get a class of kids that doesn't act ridiculous, so i can just pay my 54 dollars for my "free" pass and ski...

all jokes aside, i think the ski school deal might be a good experience for me, personally, since i am learning a lot of the 'proper technique' type stuff that i've gotten lazy with over my 22 years. also, its always good to be able to deal with kids, since i've realized that in the working world there are lots of people who still act like children (not in the funny ha-ha family sitcom type way, but the dear god how does this person actually have a job kind of way. it seriously sucks ass dealing with people who are older than you but act like they are still 13. no offense intended for any of you 13 year olds out there *wink*).

did mohan the past three years. only worth it if you can't get rides or want a place to stay. they have pvc pipes that you can set pre and post season. stuff about is alpental isn't true pass works fine.

If I was you, I would check the date on threads. This one here is quite old.
