Getting new skis...

Hey, so I'm getting skis for christmas, and was hoping for a little input.

I have skied since I was about 5, and now that I'm 15, and wont grow too much more, my parents agreed to get me skis for Christmas. I'm into park riding (though not very good), so I'm going to get twin tips.

what would you recommend I get? The place I'll most likely buy from carries K2, Rossi, and Head. also, I'll be riding groomed runs, park, but vary little powder...

price range would be max $500 CAD

You're definitely gonna keep growing at only 15 unless you're like 6'5" already. But on the skis, you need to give us your weight, height, where you ski, stuff like that.

5'11"-6", 135lbs (i know, im skinny)  i said i ski mainly groowmed trails and park, very little powder. unless you mean the hill, Martock, in NS Canada

I was in your position once.  I got Fujatives back when they were still around (and not kung fujas) and looking back it wasn't a bad choice at all (because I wanted a softer ski).
I'd get a symmetrical ski though if I were you.  There are lots of options, just depends if you like a stiff or soft ski.
You are skinny wow, I'd go for something that is fairly long.  Get the longest symmetrical ski you can, once you figure out what ski to get, get the longest one they make of that particular ski.
178 Anthems would be a good choice but they are pretty soft, moment reno jibs or Fischer Addicts would be good too and they are on the stiffer side.

Longer is faster, more stable, more fun (butters and whatnot).  It is generally better to go a little longer than a little shorter imo.  A short ski isn't the end of the world though.  I was 5'8 on 169 fujatives and it was fun but a longer ski would have probably been more fun.

You might keep growing too.  I for some reason haven't grown since like 7th or 8th grade which has saved me thousands.

yup, or... if you want a little stiffer of a ski, i would recommend the armada ar6 for sure

There are no Line dealers in my province, and only one Armada dealer, which may be complicaed to get to.

What do you guys think of the K2 Disorderly? I know where I can buy them, and theyre in around my price range.

disorderlys are fun playful park ski would be a good choice get them in a 179 you would enjoy them

disorderlys are a great chioce. i have them they have tons of pop, butter nice, are symetrical, but they seem stiif enough to handle some bigger jumps

Alright, ill definitly look at these, hopefully they have 179's in stock.

are they a good all around ski? though ill spend a lot of the time in the park hitting jumps, rails, boxes, etc. (and the jumps arent that big at my hill, compared to what they can be), ill be on groomed runs often, and a little pow (mainly my backyard, its a decent hill).

and how do you find the center mount? thanks guys, + karma to the both of you.

the k2 PE's were my favorite skis for years until i switched to chronics, they are a great all mountain park ski. They last too

Well, I got my skis:

K2 Disorderly 179cm, Marker 11 bindings, K2 Edge helmet, Scott Motive Goggles, Salomon Mission X4 boots, and Scott S2 Triton Poles.

I'm pumped and ready to ride!

Funny thing is, My skis and stuff match my bike (2008 Norco 125). ive got the whole white and lime green thing going on. pics soon!

If it isn't too late I would bring back those bindings right now. They are the worst possible binding you could buy for freeskiing.

they came with the skis for a deal, and i was over budget. i said fuck it, im learning park, and they cant be that bad. I'll get new ones next season when I have some money. otherwise, what do you guys think?

the skis were $599 plus tax bindings included... not sure what is was without them, but the skis, boots, and bindings came to about $900 tax in, $100 over my budget (ya, not the biggest budget...). theyll be fine for a year. i mean, they gotta be better than what they have at my local hill, right?

I watched a 90lb kid anihilate a pair of those bindings after coming off of a box switch. They prerelease constantly when they're not broken.

well considering that the disorderlys are $399 on evogear i'd say you got ripped off. $200 for a pair of marker 11's? that is ridiculous. i would return right now and go buy them from evogear. and get a good pair of binding with your $200 bucks too.

online retailer's can mark products down considerably. they buy in mass amounts from the company and get discounts. the skis alone were definitly atleast $500 without bindings.

I may not be able to estimate prices with skis that well, but my first sport is MTB (street/park/dj, on a 26") and ive seen some pretty huge differences in price online compared to a shop, and i know the products are worth what the shops sell them for. I may have gotten ripped off compared to an online dealer, but i wasnt able to buy my stuff online. my mom said we wouldnt be doing that...

and as i always say on pinkbike (site like NS for bikers), it doesnt matter what you ride, as long as you do. though i will be looking into new bindings next season most likely.

plus in Canada skis are usually more expensive, especially in the maritimes cause there isn't much competition.
