If youv been thinking about getting a pair of dps, stop thinking, stop reading, go get them now. I skied abasin on saturday and they were absolutely amazing. In the few tree runs i got in (still alota shit hiding in the woods) their float and easy ability to slash quick turns was astounding in deep light snow, i found a couple spots where drifts made it waist deep and they blew my mind. But i was expecting these to be absolutely epic powder boards so that was no surprise, what amazed me was i could actually ski them on the rest of the hill. On the groomers where there was no powder and just soft snow i had noo problem linking up turns at all, it was easy to get on edge and carve down as fast as i wanted. Shit i had an awesome time skiing some bumps that collected on the side of the trail. Hopping around small pillows in powder was just awesome and i can't say enough good things about these skis.
So stoked to ski mine once Baker opens. That's nice to know that they are good on non-pow snow too.
So how different do they feel compared to a regular sidecut ski?
The first couple turns were different, but once i got the hang of it it really wasn't much different, of course my msps are better on groomers but the difference was no where near as noticeable as i was expecting it to be.
So it's easy to get used to, sick.
Have you read that article by McConkey. If so, is it easier to ski like he describes, like more sideways and not straight down, like you slide a lot when you slash a turn in pow?
Can they charge at all, or are they chattery? Butters?
Did you get a ton of questions and stuff about them?
I was gonna PM you, but I'll just ask stuff here so everyone can read the responses.
Yeah i read that article and it describes it pretty well, i only had a few really deep turns i was able to link but the sliding feeling is pretty accurate only i didn't really slide downhill very much when making a turn, once i got my speed up a little in a small powder chute i was able to link small turns in a tight area really quickly with such little effort. I did get alota comments on em on the lift and alota stares which i loved. The chatter was pretty minimal, i was able to straight line the ends of runs and only got minimal chatter which i really didn't notice too much. Hope that helps
Now I want snow more than ever. I might rock them at opening day at Baker if it's not rocky haha.
I still gotta send the bad Donner Party's back, I've been fucking busy lately and they are still sitting in my dorm.
Once more, in regards to riding them on groomers, the snow was pretty soft all over the mountain, and they were by no means perfect, if was harder to initiate a turn and get on edge if i didn't have much speed, but once my speed was up it was pretty easy to carve
I rode the donners for my first time last weekend at sunshine, and i agree with absolutely everything you are saying. It's the most fun i have ever had on a ski. SO SICK.
And the dude with the arg's is gnarly. He rips really really hard no matter the conditions haha
