Kiteboarding?

livin' in hawaii now looking for something similar to skiing and i recently saw a few people kiteboarding, seems like lots of fun anyone ever try it?

i'm thinking i'll try a few lessons and then if i really like it i might sell my surfboard

its tons of fun, i did it this summer in thailand for a few weeks. first couple days you pretty much have to get the hang of getting your kite in the air, the rest you just learn how to ride. its alot of fun, i def recommend it.

I kite board, actually going to maui soon, and if you want to try it do it it is a fucking rush. It is fast and when you learn how to jump you will fall in love. I have been kiting for a couple years, and i cant get enough.

In the winter you can Kite-ski!

I bought a 16 M kite last summer Looking forward to having the lakes freeze up =)

haha yea a little nervous about that. i think i'll just skimp on groceries/partyin and just live on oatmeal and pineapple for a few weeks wouldn't be the first time and its not like the sport requires a lift ticket as well as gear (thankgod) how much is the average set up? a 1000 or so yea? i mean for a beginner?

depends what you buy, in most cases you get what you pay for, but if you pay 1000 please tell me where. You could be the snoody kiter who only goes when the wind is perfect for your one kite, but if you can afford a quiver get one cause then you can go when ever there is a little breeze. If you want one kite an ok board and a harness,your probably looking at a little over 1000, that is if you go for the not super companies, that try to sell you the same stuff as the other guys for too much money

Slingshot. It's the best stuff you can get. also DON'T BUY GEAR OLDER THAN 2005, there's been a lot of radical changes in kite design that have made them much more user friendly in recent years.

Well, I'm a kiteboarder myself and it's one of the best feelings in the world. If I were you I would buy a "bow-kite". These kites are easier to start with and cover a bigger windrange than the C-shaped kites. If I were you I would just seek a local shop, it might be more expensive but it's easier with warranty. Besides that, it's easier to find out what gear is the best for you, for example a harness. You really have to try them for buying.

kitings so damn fun. fucking expensive though. i paid 1800 for my setup and then my first day out my kite wasnt big enough it sucked. you pretty much need 2 kites so be ready to blow lots of money

oh ya and get a bow kite. your instructors will help you out though and tell you what you need. i bet kiting in the ocean is way better than lakes
