Wax

I'm going to start waxing my skis often.
I basically just need some basic but not super cheap wax along with a scraper and a brush.
I looked at Swix, but I was wondering if there was anything else?

swix wax, but you can use anything for Irons, scrapers etc

get some good swix ch wax a bronze brush and a good 5mm scraper and get to it.  those dakine/bakoda/burton/everyone else irons work fine and they're cheap bout $30 - $40.

I got an ancient iron that is flat with no holes I can use. But thanks for the recs.
Swix seemed like the way to go.

my dad just uses an old iron with no holes too, works good. and purl wax is real good. i got some free samples that work real good in all conditions, its really hard wax too.

holmenkol wax  - best stuff ever

toko wax- alright, but has a better price

keep an eye on tramdock.com,  you can get a good iron way cheap if you're lucky

for wax i use swix. always been good stuff. for an iron i woud not use one of those old shit irons, go out and buy a toko iron, they have a wide surface and heat fast. for brushes check out swix or svat. and scrapers dont really matter. if your in a hurry buy a roto brush

I walked into this rental/repair shop in Canmore and asked if they sold wax. The guy behind the counter was like.. "no, but I can give you some" and he gave me an entire brick of Universal wax for free. I was stoked. They're usually like 30$.

all good and reliable-

KUU http://www.kuu.com/ has some great syntheticwaxes that last a long time for cold ,

-Holmenkol http://www.holmenkol.us - Beta is good hydrocarbon otherwise their stuff is great,

-TOKO - can be pricey in their hi-end but have good sport / Low FL moly, this stuff is slick 

-www.RACEWAX.com  has 20% off new website sale - they have knock-offs of great hi-end waxes -  great bang for the $buck$

-SWIX has been mentioned already - hard to find a bargain, their LF is good their hi-end BD are expensive (moly ).

 

Dominator, Maplus, Vola, Raceservice-1   there are many others but the ones that sponsor the USSA ski team and Alpine Canada Alpin are reliable because these waxes get tested out under real tough conditions.

For park & pipe ironing in a "harder" or colder wax will protect the bases better, but not much. U don't need a super wax unless ur lookin to hit big in the pipe on a slow snowy day.  

Paste and rub on waxes don't last. U only get the value of Flouro in very humid or wet conditions or warm...with some exceptions.

I just finished 9 pairs for this weekend. U need good tunes to work that.

just finished putting 4 coats of wax on my race skis. i used swix all last season and it was fun, i'll probably do the same this season.
