Ski waxing...

Alright so i'm getting my shit ready for tomorrow, and i lost my scraper brush for scraping excess wax off. I dont feel like going out and buying another one so is there any cheap alternative? Will a scotch brite pad work? or my ice scraper?

scrapers are made out of plexi glass so if you have a piece laying around then just cut one out of that. also a piece of flat plastic will work.

Believe it or not, just leave the wax on. I have personally done it and by mid-day most of the wax has been scraped off by the snow. Early season especially doesn't matter and is still fast - a little performance but not much at all, and by mid day you are set to go.

Wait... are you talking about a sraper or a brush?
For the brush, I would use a scrubby (I don't even have a real wax brush, i just use a scrubby)
For a scraper, I would use either an old plastic card or an ice scraper, as mentioned above.

a scotch brite pad is only good for the polish/ buff. find like a plastic ruler, or a credit car will do...

i used a piece of sheet metal last year when i lost my scraper. it might have dulled my edges a tad but still got the job done. luckily i found my old scraper :)

I don't really see why people even wax downhill skis. I xc ski and that wax process can be quite notorious, but the wax that comes from the factory on downhill skis is really fine. My skis are as fast as people's that have waxed. Just take one less speed check.

you must ski somewhere where the snow conditions are constant every day and the temperature is perfect. where i am, the conditions change everyday, from well blow freezing up to the 40s.

Not only is it for speed but all around performance for you skis. Plus it goes a long way to maintaining your skis and extending there life.

ya u dont need to scrap ur skis. they will feel sticky for like a run or two, but after that u will be money. i race and i never scrap before i go out.

you don't really have to brush your skis after scraping unless your trying to win a race, but if you really want to the brite pad would work pretty much the same  as a brush would...go fast!

i always just left all the wax on them and then took a run, the snow does a really good job at being abrasive to ski wax...

clean base ... fill core shots ... melt wax ... scrape off.  The hardest part is cleaning the shit off your bedroom floor before your mom freaks.

You sir should wax your skis, this isn’t global warming we are talking about this shits for real ...  then you could ski with faster friends.

are you serious? waxing does more than you think, same for xc skis, and race skis, even though people may wax race and xc skis more, its verrrry important to wax your "downhill skis" (twintips) as said above it cleans the base, makes the ski muuuch faster, fills in scratches and core shots, keeps the base from drying up, if you didnt wax your skis for like 1 season they would be soo dry that you probably would need to straight shot a jump when others are making like 4 speed checks,

think about it dude, it does the same thing as waxing xc skis
