ok so this is very strange.


TRY THIS IN YOUR HEAD FIRST!!!!!!





take 1000 and add 40 to it.  now add another 1000.   now add 30. add another 1000. now add 20. now add another 1000. now add 10. now what is your total? 








 

So YOU GOT 5000?

 

the correct answer is 4100 fool. if you don't believe it, try it on a calculator.

um, i got 4100 in my head. i don't see what you're trying to get across here, i don't see how anybody could possibly get 5000 out of the equation you gave.

wait no i didn't... 1000+40+ 1040      1040+1000= 2040     2040+30= 2070    2070+1000= 3070                                  3070+1000= 4070+20=4090+10=5000

I actually got it wrong, probably because I saw the 5000 even though I was trying not to look.  You have to space it out further so you can't see the answer while you're reading the problem.

If you're doing it really fast in your head and picturing the numbers its easy to say in your head "4090" and then see the 10 and make it 5000...but if you're careful it's not a problem
