The return of Big Mountain

hey i just watched Focused for the second time and i realized the big mountain skiing changed a lot... it seemed they only kept the people who were progressing big mountain this year, including some jibbers who werre doin nice lines, i'm glad they got away from just straightlining shit and started doin multi stagers and actually dropping cliffs instead of just skiing around them in a 'straight line', This marks a reversal in the decline of Big mountain skiing that started in Ski Movie one.

i just meant in the past two or three years most of the 'Big Mountain' skiers have just been skiing down the faces avoiding the cliffs, i mean i could do that... i'm psyched their back to hitting more cliffs, and skiing tighter lines with enough obstacles that they have to jump or at least manuver a good amount around them, not just GS turn down the poweder, which most of us could do.

You know what I hate about Big Mountain? The new guys like CR johnson and Pep an those guys doing big lines in movies... Now its sick that those guys are trying to progress and step it up to big faces, but they are NOT big mountain skiers!!! There is no way that CR ca nrip a line like Krietler or Cummings, or someone like that. If those guys tried to do a 540 in the park, you wouldnt see that in a movie, so I dont want to see the jibbers taking big mt. lines unless they are as good or better than the big boys!

OK, Jake, You're an idiot. **I could do that** What the hell?!?!?!?!?!? You would shit your pants if you had to do the last 20 of one of those lines. Some of those lines take an unbelievable amount of skill. Maybe you have it, I dunno. I with a comment like that, I am assuming that you don't.
And, of course, they always avoid the cliffs, right? WHAT THE HELL????? The ski movie series (I've never seen the first one) has tons of cliffs. Like, I dunno, maybe Morrison's 80 foot cliff in s Front line with the Rodeo? Of Davenport's 75 footer in the same movie? And if you could have seen High Society, McConkey talks about how people who complain about skiers always avoiding the cliffs (just like you!) shouldn't talk because from where they are, they don't have a good view of that kind of thing.
Think before you talk.

jakes if you can do it why aren't YOU in the movie? and also i agree with NMK to an extent.....but it takes a lifetime to become as hardcore as KK and those insane big mt mf's. it is still a very rare breed of skiers that can kill it in the park AND rip a super sick ass line in the bc

I agree. I was getting sick of that straight line crap too. I want to see those guys going big not just going straight down the run. There really isnt much skill there if youre not going big.

They film pep and cr doing more Big mtn because thats what the people who buy the movies want to see, new blood with park skills and what not. I do agree that, while the lines that pep and them are sweet, they arent the kind of lines you see dean, seth and micah skiing.

the reason jibbers like Cr are doing big mtn lines is becuase they dont want to be known as just jibbers. They want to establish themselves as all mountain riders so why not let them hit big lines. i think Cr can rip is well, maybe not as good as kreitler but those guys are like teachers to them.
Thats what CR says in the new powder, he says hes sick of people just being in the park and not on the mountain

I never thought of skiing as a joking matter. I welcome park riders on the hill. It would be interesting to see where Tanner would place in a skier cross or a downhill.

Did anyone not see the begining of CR's part in Focused? Seth says that those guys Pep Pollard CR etc... are the new leaders in Big Mtn.

pollard is way better at big mountain then cr
cr does descent size drops but look at pollard skiing huge faces fakie
180 of 10 foot spine rides fakie for a couple hundred meters then switch corked three off the wind lip he uses the features on the mountain so much and he does them with super style pollard is definatly the best all around skier right now

I get saddend when I look into the video section and all I see are a couple of rails even in the middle of the winter. 85%of this site is jibbers. I don't care if you post a small, low angled ankle high powder run, thats what I post. I think I have watched enough man-made snow, courdory, tables, rails. The untouched pristen mountain is where its at and what the mountains are truley respected for. I don't care if you live on the east coast. There is still real knar to be found. the people on this site need to broaden their horizons and start seeing past the media to the real knar of mountains, it's 100 times better than hitting a rail and trying to look pro. Mountains shouldn't be all turned into theme parks with meatal sticking every where, and orange plastic tape cutting off the beauty. mabey I should move to Europe.
anyone else like this?

Yeah I agree too.
I dont want the soul of skiing to made up into somethings its not.
The soul of Skiing isnt solely found in jibbing or riding a rail. I still respect anyone that rides in the park though.
Its good to know where the roots are and know that are still there.

^ I totally agree, i've been skiing lines and shit for most of my ski career, i've only recently started doin tricks and as soon as a learn a new trick i try it off a cliff... i just think that the skiers in focused this year are a lot more progressive in big mountain than a lot of the people in the last few years, like Hugo Harrison, morrison, Johnson, Pollard, Pep, Mcgovern, Mcknonkey

To The guy saying that big mountain skiers that don't 'huck' have no skills. Do you think throwing yourself off cliffs takes skills, not really it's more gutts then skills. Im pretty sure straightlinning a huge face takes more skill then jumping off a 70 foot cliffs landing on your back with one ski popping off and claiming you landed it.

hugos seg was amazing, and no i'm not saying people who huck and don't actually stick their shit are skilled, but for three years straight i saw way to much straight lining and gs turning around cliffs in Big mountain, hugo is mixing both speed and big hits in his lines, and morrison, c.r., pep, are mixing lines and tricks, these new segs are truly the big mountain progression

I was dissapointed not to see JT Holmes in Focused, He's had some pretty progressive segments, especially in ski movie I and III.

Well I have always thought that McConkey brought on that whole straight line thing which I thought was pretty dumb. I dont think it take any skill to straight line.
Theres always been far more skill in hucking cliffs and going big than anything else. Theres things been done that take alot of skill as well.

what the fuck? you want to see lines and not rails? why would you come on this site, it is a 'newschoolers' site, a site MADE FOR rails/jumps, its not called biglines/com or whatever those sites are,
this site is rails/ tables/ urban/ jumps/ what not, and that is skiing, the sole of skiing, its not big mountain, thats a different type of skiing,

seriously, why do you care what anyone else is doing with there progression? if they wana just ski lines, then let them just ski lines. if they wana huck a 1080 in the park, then let them. what the fuck does it have to do with you? does someone doing a hucked 1080 ruin freeskiing? so what if someone is a 'park rat'. im on the east coast and yeah, i would kill to go out west or go to somewhere in quebec at the vary least to hit up some runs, but the runs at my place suck, so fuck you and your 'all around skiing'.

straightlining might take strength and skill, but its still gay. trying to fuck my dad in ass would take strength and skill, but thats gay, too. so why do it? especially to waste video time on it. I'd rather watch Hindu music videos.
