look the jvc one i was gonna get was discontinued so which one of these is better for filming skiing?

canon almost always has a better lens than a sony. a better lens doesnt always mean better picture, it is the chip that captures all the color and makes the image.

I like the picture quality of sony 1 chip cameras better than that of a canon 1 chip. they are both pretty similar cameras, so i would just go with the cheapest or whatever has the best features in your opinion.

^^ I agree. Canon single CCD cameras have dodgy reviews of their performance in low light. The Optura, if it's the camera I'm thinking about, shat me off because it has a plastic thread for the tripod and the tape loads from the bottom so you have to take it off the tripod whenever you change tapes. Really inconvenient.

I would go the Sony

Yeah the tripod thing on the Optura is a pain in the ass, even with a quick release, you still can't get to the tape.

if those are really the only two you are considering, id go with the canon. the image quality on the canon should be better than that sony. And for anyone whos interested, this site tells you how to make a steadycam for $14 (should make for some smoother shots while skiing).
