Pipe cleaner for rails? suspect or dumont

Hey fellas..
Currently I have the pipe cleaner 06/07 with a z12 binding..
Im going for 20% groomers, 30% rails and 50% jumps.

Im going away to ski for 2 months straight. Im afraid neither the ski nor binding will last me this long.. The Pipe cleaner due to the rails, and the z12 just in general.
So im thinking of getting rid of that ski and get a new one.

Heres the setup:
Salomon Suspect 08/09
Salomon STH 14 Driver black 08/09
340 euro

Salomon Dumont 08/09
Salomon STH 14 Driver black 08/09
400 euro

Armada Pipe Cleaner 07/08
Salomon STH 14 Driver black 08/09
440 euro


Please notice that I really like the Pipe cleaner, just havent taken it for a rail yet, cause im afraid ill kill it, thats why im including it again in the new selection. It has 2,5 mm edge too, and the 06/07 only has 1,7 mm edge. Will it make a huge difference on the rail view?

I have the red/tan Pipe Cleaners, with the thin edges, and skied them for 2/3 of last season. Thrashing rails and jumps and crap. The edges are fine. Im actually going to ski them this season too. They should last the whole season, I hope. They handle rails fine. I don't know why everyone is afraid of the base and edges. Just ski them normally, they're tough. I don't know the condition of the skis, so it's up to you if you want to get new ones. But don't be afraid to hit rails with them. They love rails

Alright. Ill keep that in mind then. Still im going to sell the old ski due to the salomon z12 binding.

dont buy pipe cleaners for rails. if you get them they should strictly be a jump and pipe ski. the bases are softer and the edges are thinner on them compared to your other options.

if you chose the dumont over the suspect you will be paying an extra 60 euro for one more strand of edge armour.the suspect and dumont are the EXACT SAME CONSTRUCTION apart from the extra edge armour(which dosent actually do anything) on the dumonts.

i vote for you to go for the best option which is the suspect and the sth14. its cheaper, and you will be happy with the jib performance, and the all mountian capability of the ski aswell.

p.s. get the white sth 14, it looks AWESOMe on the suspect.

The pipe cleaners will still be fine for rails. the only difference between them and the ar6 is that the pipe cleaner has a race base.  if u dont car to much about ruining the race finish then stick with the pipe cleaners.  if u dont want to ruin the pipe cleaners but like them alot u should consider getting the ar6 cause the ar6 and pipe cleaner are very similar skis.

I would get the AR6 if i could afford it.. But 675 euro with a STH14 binding is too much i think.

Are you sure that the dumont and suspect are the same only with 1 wire difference?

i am kinda in the same situation, and to the creater of this thread just let me know if u dont want me asking this, but i thought since im looking into the same ski for the same reason i may as well just ask my question here.

basicly the same as the creater,.. i want a good park but still a good/decent all mountain ski.. Iheard that the pipe cleaners have a racing base which make the ski faster but can cause the ski to get chewed up on rails. can anyone give me some help? Basicly i dont want to purchase some ski's and then get them cracked or what not half way threw the season. Any help is thank full.

Did anyone read my post? I actually HAVE Pipe Cleaners. And skied them ALL OVER rails and boxes last season, disastering and shit like there's no tomorrow. The edges and bases last fine. The difference is barely noticeable. Armada wouldn't make this that spontanouesly melt at the sight of rails. That doesn't answer his question, but I am just saying, the Pipe Cleaners are not afraid of rails.

Pipe Cleaners are fine on rails, I know 2 people with thew 06/07 model theyt both have skied them for 2 years and had no problems. Dumonts and Suspects might hold up a little better but like someone said pipe cleaners dont melt at the sight of rails.

I have the 07s. The ones with the "thin" edges. The 08 and 09s have the normal edges, so they're even stronger.

if you like the pipe cleaners, go with the pipe cleaners. If ur a lighter person i would recommend keeping thsoe bases waxes and tuned, but it doesn't mean u still can't hit rails. Just to put it out there, TJ broke like 4 in a season, so if you ski like a beast i would recommend a stronger ski, but if not, get dat BECKAY!

The pipe cleaners would be the best ski out of all of those. I personally would choose the suspect cuz of the price and the dumont is too stiff for me.

race bases are actually harder. they do get more brittle if you dont keep them properly saturated with wax, but as along as you wax frequently, they will hold up just fine.

also unless you have the first years pipe cleaners, the edges are the same as every other armada ski.

to the OP.

if you arent having any problems with the setup, idk why you would switch it.

yes the pipe cleaners edges are slightly thinner, but i doubt that will make a massive difference, unless you are doing a ton of disasters and things where you are really bashing rails


out of the setups you did mention, if you are down to get a new one, pipe cleaners are by far the best option. both solly skis are NOTORIOUS for having massive edge blowouts.


pipe cleaners are a fantastic ski, and will hold up perfectly fine as long as you keep the base well waxed.

Dumonts are a little stiffer than suspects. The race base is actually more durable if you keep it waxed than the other bases

Suspects have really good build quality, and will DEFINITELY last for more than 10 days of riding. The edges will not blow out, the edge armour will not fail, the base material will not peel back, the ABS will not warp, and the core will not splinter. And the topsheet definitely won't chip down to the core.
