Eagle Scout

So i don't know if any of you care much or what can be expected from this thread, but i have just received the rank of Eagle Scout. I feel so satisfied, and am overwhelmed with joy. I have not had my court of honor yet, but i have just been given the rank.

For my project I rebuilt one of the Boise Idaho Greenbelt Bicycle bridges by replacing the old planks on the bridge with 100 new 10'x10"x4" douglas fur boards. This project took two days total, and 18 participants per day. the total hours including individual participant hours was around 302 (also includes pre project and post project write-ups).

I created this forum for the purpose of seeing who else has received this rank, and what they did for their project.

*basically asking if you have your eagle scout, and what you did for your project.

i remember being a cub scout

Pinewood derby, regatta, chariot races. good times haha. my troop was full of strange fat kids though haha. i didnt last very long

It's kind of cool to see how many Eagle Scouts are on here.

I got mine last year, I raised money to put a flagpole up with stone pavers around it. my project ended up being like 250 hours after all of the fund raising and all of the stuff that goes in to it. I was proud as well, it really helps on college apps because you actually have something that you're passionate about to write about for essays.

16 and Life here. Also SPL of a troop of 40 or so kids. All my requireds are done, and I have more than enough non-requireds. I'm stuck on a project though.

On a slightly related note, who is going to Jamboree this summer? Im ASPL for Troop307 out of New York. Subcamp 3 I believe is where we'll be at. PM me if you're going, would be super chill to see an NS'er there

Its really a great thing, just push through it.

Its one of the first things people look at on my resume fo sho. Plus do you want to look back on your younger days when someone says their an eagle scout and be like oh yeah I was almost one, then I got lazy.

Think about it.

I too received mine last october. My project was ridiculous though, I collected 100 backpacks, filled them up with school supplies, and then shipped them to a elementary school in Iraq. Let me tell you, shipping boxs full of shit to Iraq is one tuff ass fucking job. I also work at a summer camp in Colorado. If any one on NS has been to peaceful valley or is planning on going there let me know haha.

from the perspective of someone a little farther along then you, nut up and do it.

I got my life in '06, and luckily my little bro and dad were still active in the troop or I wouldve been screwed. This summer I finally got my act together tried to get re-involved. Im not going to sugar coat it, it was hard work, especially being a senior in hs. I ended up finishing my project in november, and im just finishing up all the paper work now, had my scoutmaster conference last night, and need to schedule a board of review. I turn 18 in about 2 months, and i cannot wait to get this all wrapped up.

Yes it will be a grind. But you need to do it. You may end up having fun while doing it. My dad says he has met so many people who say they were at life, but they never ended up making it to eagle, and its one of the decisions they regret most in their lives.

DO IT

I'm sure you can get help from people in your troop, but if you wanna hear about it from someone who just did what you need to do, or want more encouragement pm me. I want to see you post here in 4 months and be like, "just got my eagle. Booya!" Now get off new schoolers and work on your project or your remaining badges. GO

I got mine a few years back, did a can food drive at school and gave it to local homeless shelters. I always carry my cad in my wallet.

When I was like 15 I did the full writeup for my project, got it approved, and then got so fed up with the whole system that I just said fuck it. I ended up going on some sweet backpacking trips, being SPL, and a bunch of other cool stuff, but never got the eagle.  I do regret it a bit, but I feel like I'm equally if not more prepared in the outdoors than your average eagle scout.

I turned 108 2 x 4's into 8 solid benches for my brother's middle school shop class.
I also turned that into thousands of dollars for college haha

Back in my senior year we had this officer come in and talk about drugs, some how he got onto the topic of eagle scouts and I mentioned that I was one. He didn't believe me and started on a rant about lying so I whipped out my card. Shut that fucker up real quick.

CONGRATULATIONS! That's awesome. I have so much respect for people who are Eagle Scouts.

And I have my Silver Star in Girl Scouts (which is equivalent to Life Scout), but I got too old to be able to get my Gold Star in time. Ehhhh. Looking back I wish I planned better to get Gold, but Silver is better than nothing. My troop and I did a lot of work within the community and running a sports/activity day that is a yearly tradition in our town.

Congratulations.

I am an Eagle Scout as well, got when I was 15.

Project was a grueling one--we made a hiking trail handicap accessible by redoing the gravel trail. We spread and tamped over 40 cubic yards of gravel to cover over 2000 feet of trail.

1 day, 260 total hours with 50 volunteers, great workout for everyone who was wheelbarrowing. Ironically, only a couple months later I was in a wheelchair, so I went and tested the trail out.

Good shit man. I'm not personally an Eagle Scout but I did work for my little brothers project. He had a local church playground refurbished. New wood layout for the perimeter, sand, bark, paint, etc. Looked pretty clean when it was finished.
