How often are you suppose to wax your skis ?

i'm new to waxing my own skis and was wondering how often you guys usually wax your skis ? are you really just suppose to go by feel ?

Any idea on which wax+kit I should get? OR what I should get to start waxing.

Actually you keep the wax on over your edges so the moisture in the air/basment doesnt oxidize on your unprotected edges.
