(pause) not!

so i just watched a news story on that slanted biased Fox news and then went and found a print article. The gist of it is that Rap is illegal, we're talking thrown in jail illegal.

how fucked up is that?

iran used to be great until Ayatollah Khomeini overthrew the Shah of Iran and now it's the hellhole we see it as today. My dad didn't grow up in a fucked up place he actually grew up real happy until in 10th grade they had to dip to switzerland because shit was getting fucked up back there.

my mom was 18 i think when she voted against khomeini in a public protest, and they had sent people to arrest her and kill her at her house. my grandfather was a khan, so everybody in the town knew their family so they managed to hide my mom until they could pretty much smuggle her out of the country, and she moved to belgium, then germany, switzerland, then france where she met my dad. but yeah, Iran wasn't always like this, its still a beautiful country if you can overlook the mindless Islamic people that have turned it into what it is today. i hope nothing bad happens there as alot of my family is still there. im just hoping that this hostility ends soon so that i can go visit the place my mom grew up in, i want to see it for myself, not picture it from what ive heard my family talk about over and over

I don't know if you can blame it entirely on Khomeini. Things (the economy, national security etc.) were already going down the shitter under the Shah. True, he was a borderline insane extremist who probably did more bad than good, but the country was deteriorating way before he came to power. You could even argue that the revolution would have happened anyway. At least that's how i see it...

me either at all. my mom called 2 years ago to get a visa so we could go visit. and they said she is not allowed back because i quote " madam, there werent enough iranian men here for you to marry? you had to go marry a french?"  my mom flipped a shit on them.

 my their house was sick, she showed my pictures of it. it was MASSIVE, like 4 courtyards, 3 pools, maids house. dude i cant believe it when my mom tells me this,  she personally had her own maid, and driver, along with her 5 siblings.  and my grandmother apparently holds the deed to an apartment building in tehran, but we cant do anything with it because they cant go back

The fact of the matter is, that besides vince and alex_g and myself, the rest of you have no idea what iran is or was like, and what its like, or any of its history.

the united states has done alot of damage to Iran and the reason its considered a "terrorist" state is because its the only free Muslim country thats outspoken about the US and calls us out on all the shit america does.

alot of lower class people viewed the shah as bad (he was like a republican), my father was not a fan of the shah, and my family back home says that amadneijad is making Iran self sufficient on itself, however those are minor issues we can debate in a civilized manor, unlike the fools who randomly hate for no fucking reason.

The way I've heard it, the US supported the last Shah (Mohammed Reza Shah). He was pretty westernized and friendly to the regime here, but when the economy and things started going downhill everyone turned against him. Khomeini offered solutions to a lot of the problems, so even though he was so radical, he got a large following and the revolution happened, a bad thing for the US. You might be thinking of Mossadeq, who I think someone else mentioned, but Khomeini was pretty solidly against the US and westernization.

Sparknotes: I'm pretty sure the US supported the shah and opposed the revolution, but it happened anyway.

All I have to go off of is a history class that I don't pay much attention to, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

mossadeq wanted to nationalize irans oil reserves.  big oil didn't like that so the cia came in and put in the shah.  khomeni came after the revolution to get rid of the shah.

Iran has every right to nuclear technology, they have signed the nuclear non proliferation treaty which allows the use (and actaully says countries have to povide the tools and design methodoligy) of peacful nuclear technology, but the US still denys them the right. why then did they offer the treaty to them in the first place.

dont get in a factual debate with me on this topic, you will not win.

No country has the "right" to nuclear technology. You guys are run by an "elected" chimpanzee looking motherfucker, with invisible marionette strings being guided by the high ayatollah puppeteers. I find it quite ironic that you call Iran a "free" Muslim country, yet your peers discuss in this thread how they're not able to go back. Iran has plenty of dirt cheap oil, there is absolutely no plausible reason whatsoever for them to have any need for nuclear energy.


The last thing I want a terrorist-sponsoring Islamic theocracy to have is a nuclear warhead. You can argue all you want about the abstracts of international law.

and actually Iran produces as much natural gas as oil, and is in control of oil flow thru the straight of Hormuz (sp?) which is a small channel that like 50% of US oil flows thru.

If you're stupid enough to think that talking down on your current government is talking shit about your ancestry, then I suppose its futile to say anything at all to you. The fact of the matter is that Iran is currently a terrorist-sponsoring Islamic theocracy, and make no mistake that is fact. I apologize if my "lack of an open mind" prevents me from recognizing the facts.

And your last part just confirmed what I said before about Iran having no need whatsoever for nuclear energy.

If that's the case, why doesn't the U.S. drill only in its own soil to produce its oil? You ever think that maybe some countries want to search for alternative energy sources before they use up all their oil? Satellites can easily see radiation and nuclear productions. It would be easy to monitor a nuclear power plant. Why shouldn't Iran be allowed to seek alternative, and even cleaner methods of power?

I have a friend who has worked with BP for the past ~30 years. He has told me a lot about nuclear power, and he says that there are ways to keep it very clean, without a chernobyl meltdown. If Iran wants power this way, I say let them.
