I always was really careful to do it with my race skis way back in the day, But now I rarely remember or care... so I'll just ride them again this year and after a few days I should know whether or not I need to raise the din.

Never even thunk about it. I always put a thick layer of wax over my bases though.

By unwinding do you mean lowering your din over summer?

I do it. Not sure it really makes any difference, but it makes me feel better knowing I'm doing what's recommended.

I did. And stored them in a cold cold basement so that the base didn't dry out.

exactly.otherwise the spring gets loose and the number on the binding doesnt respond to the actuall thing

lol some dude i used to ski with who was 200+ pounds turned his din alllll the way down for the summer and opening day a few seasons ago first turn came out of both skis and it was pretty funny....nothing worse then starting your season with your first turn to double eject...
