Mounting Subwoofers - Different places

So i have a 98 tahoe, and i want to put subs in it.

BUT - Im not down with just sticking a box in the back behind the back seat, because we actually use the cargo area, including folding down the second row to put multiple bikes, or wood, or rails, or whatever in it.

SO - Im wondering where it is possible to mount subs in a way that they wont interfere with any cargo space. Like - is it possible to pull out the factory ceiling mounted back speakers and cut the holes bigger and put the subs there? or where else could i put them?

For sure man, Just take your rig into some car audio places around where you live, Just make sure you shop around and get a look at some of their past work. It may cost more money to do custom enclosures but it's worth it. it looks better and it saves space.

i feel like i've definitely seen people put them underneath seats. but the thing about that is that you need to have it custom done, so that would probably be a lot of $$$. go to www.crutchfield.com and see what they have to say, they're a great electronics/car audio retailer, very knowledgeable as well

yeah. except the problem with that is that idk if it would work too well either cuz of the way the seats have to fold down to get more stuff in like i was saying..... but thanks for the answer and site recommendation, +k

ah i'm sorry bro, i didn't read carefully enough. but yeah i would get in touch with the car audio people on that site, i always buy all my speakers and stuff from them but they have a service team so good luck with getting help

jbl probably makes a stealth box for you.
no, dont stick them in the roof, subs need to be in a box or they sound like ass.
you could make a box and put it in the spare tire well if it has one inside. you could also get under seat slim subs, i think jbl or rockford fosgate makes them.
look on crutchfield and car audio forums, they help tons.
if you are going to a local shop check their quality, there are audio places here and they just blow and half ass installs.

yeah xan it will kinda be a pain in the ass and you might have to get it custom because without a box or a custom made thing for the side, the subs won't really produce sound. but they make smaller boxes to fit in small spaces (like behind the seats in the cabs of 2-seat trucks) and that would be an option, it would still be a box in back but it would probably only run about 4 inches deep max so it wouldn't use up too much of your storage

yeah man, except with that thin thing behind the seats, its still a foot or so high, so when you fold down the seats, theres gonna be a huge barrier still in there preventing you from putting in your bike or whatnot, yadadamean? but yeah, im thinkin the slim subs under seats or the spare tire enclosure

you could also just buy a roof rack, that would also be a good option,unlimited room.
but if you build a box definatly look on audio forums on how to properly build one, he cubic feet and such, the last thing you want it to spend that money and get shitty sound from an inferiorly build box.

In the rear trunk panels there's unually a ton of empty space for just wires and stuff. So if you're careful and want to try it out. You can cut and clear a space, then fiberglass it up, put the sub in there, wire it up and throw some carpet on the fiberglass, and a speaker grill for the sub and you're good to go...

pioneer makes a shallow sub that is designed to fit under seats.  throw two of those suckers under your front seats and then find somewhere to put the amps, or just have one and put the amp under the other seat.

I was in the same boat as you. I have a smaller car but I still wanted space in the back. The thing is, with the smaller subs under the seat, unless you dish out $$$$$ to get a great one with the small magnet, they don't hit hard.

I got a Alpine PLT 5 which is as LAT system:  6 5 inch cones built into a box. They produce what 2 10's would make.

I think its made for a pick up but I turned it sideways and saved almost all the space in the back.

It has a built in amp, so you save some money, they won't hit like thunder, but they'll shake your car. Its nice too because the ported box aims up so the sound goes through your car and you can't even hear it on the outside.

Just my thoughts. There are a lot of options, but I got mine for hella cheap. Plus it looks bad ass.

Check around though, I know there are some under the seat ones that are pretty good.

you could probably sneak some in the door panels but they have to be slim and you would have to run the wiring through the door but its possible.
