so the deal is..i'm 16 years old from NH and i'm obsessed with pow skiing and crazy backcountry shit. I want to take a trip to Tahoe for like a week during April vacation but i want to make it as cheap as possible. anyone have any suggestions? thanks!

my dad's company has a house in north truckee.
$50 dollars a night.
plus he travels ALOT.  His office flies him from DC to Sunnyvale, or vancouver for a meating and red eye him back the same way.
so we have enough frequent flyer miles for around 7 or 8 tickets cross continent.
on lift tickets- boreal for park and night skiing.  maybe one day at kirk or Northstar, depending on the snow, and the rest of the days at squaw.  multiday tickets are cheaper than individual days.

just saw a deal for hotel rooms in reno for $39 buks a night wit breadfast, done it before works great if you can rent a car and don't mind the drive, it saves a lot of money.

hey thanks guys that's a big help. by the way..it doesn't necessarily have to be Tahoe, i've been to keystone, vail, abasin, copper, and beaver creek..so i'm just looking for somewhere new.

if your going mid-week just go into hotels later at night and try to make deals i workin a hotel in S. Lake last winter but if its a weekend dont try becuase the whole lake can sell out if its busy, south lake has alot of hotels and buses to kirkwood, sierra and squaw i think and heavenly is right there bu ti think n lake has better resort options

tent/ snow shelter in the parking lot, and hitch hike. i spent 4 days at a-basin, just bummin on 50 bucks.

word... no idea what the laws are out there, but here in NY i'm pretty sure you have to be atleast 18 to rent a hotel room. Whether or not the hotel cares is a completely different story however... I say find a campsite and camp out for the week.

Its gonna be nearly impossible at your age to go out there alone without knowing anybody. I did a week trip to steamboat when i was 17 but my buddies cousin lived out there.

Its really hard to figure out all the details like, transportation to and from the airport, to and from the mountain, food, etc. the costs add up awfully fast

your gonna be hit and miss w/ the whole backcountry pow skiing in tahoe, because it either dumps, or its sunny and warm as shit for weeks at a time.

montana and utah have more consistent snow, not as much, but more consistent. utah may be a better choice. and the whole 16yo thing will prevent you from staying in any hotels, but i think theres a way you can have your parents call and give them a credit card? idk maybe only in some states

Look up "the block" its a hotel in south lake, their rooms are usually pretty cheap, I think about 25-35 depending on what week you are there, and they are hella chill about parties, i have had a few myself there. As for skiing you will have heavenly right across the street, really right across the street. But tickets aren't cheap so try to buy a 3 pack and save some money, but sierra is the mountain that i ride at, tickets are ok priced 65 i think was the price last year. For powder hit up kirkwood their tickets are some what priced ok but most of the time you don't even need a ticket the liftes are way to stoned to even care. But you can find some pretty cheap places to stay not the greatest hotels but they serve their purpose.

Go to Squaw which will have the most snow at that time of season and just park way out in the parking lot and sleep in your car.  It will be way cheaper, you have to get a belgian waffle everyday though, so good, I love those

Yeah but that drive from reno to the mountains every day would suck.

When I went a few years ago I stayed right in the village that was right near Heavenly. We stayed at this small hotel right next to Harvey's, this granny lady was the owner of it. She charged my dad and I like 150$ for 6 nights. Heavenly is too expensive to ski and way too corporate so just take the free bus ride from there to Kirkwood or Squaw (you'll get there like 30 minutes after opening at Squaw).

if your really good at roulette or craps, they will probably comp you a room at one of the casinos, then youll have money for tickets and food, and if you want good sushi go to "off the hook"

get a room with a couple of your friends at the best western in truckee. it's cheap and they sell lift tickets to like boreal, northstar and squaw there for 50% off

if you have someplace to crash though they'll still sell the tickets to non-guests, just walk into the lobby and ask

STAY IN TRUCKEE (15mins from the actual lake), its just as close if not closer to all of the great resorts in the 'tahoe area' and lodging is muchhhh cheaper. Tahoe's legit, and amazing, but you pay for it.best western would be a great place to stay at, its pretty reasonable (for truckee anyways) and its pretty much located right inbetween all of the resorts with buses several times a day to each. Also hitch hiking to and from skiing in the truckee/tahoe area is EXTREMELY easy. Food is going to be your enemy here, there is simply NO cheap food in truckee worth eating, go to safeway or some other grocery store and get a weeks worth of top ramen. As for resorts i would go to northstar 1-2 times for the park, but dont go there for anything besides park. Id spend as much time as possible at squaw, but do set aside a day to check out alpine meadows right next door, sick mountain with open bounderies and the best jumps in tahoe.
