My new car story...

So I just turned 18 and was finally able to get a car loan so I could get a car I wanted to drive. For the past year I have been driving around in a ford F-250 getting 9 miles to the gallon with a gas motor, not something I felt good about because it was so shitty for the environment and I wanted to do more to help, but I was stuck with the truck till now. Last week a friend of mine found a very nice volkswagen TDI (deisel) at an auto auction. He bought it for an amazing price and I got everything squared away and paid well under blue book value. I was very happy with the car because now I could run BioDeisel and stop polluting the air and stop sending my money to the middle east. Took it in to get a tune up and it seems like everything that can be wrong with it is wrong, so now im sitting on about 2 grand of repair bills as of now. So for my sake and mother natures sake cross your skis and hope it gets out tomorrow with everything fixed and at the price that stands now.

got it from a friend who owns a dealership and he got it from the auction where only dealers can buy ,so you bid on them not knowing much about and anticipating some tuning...i just want to burn biodeisel....that cant be too much to ask.

I got my VW GTI for $4,000 under blue book cause the owner of the dealership was an alumni from my school.. anyway, I got about 10,000 miles on it before everything started falling apart. It had just under 50,000 miles when I got it. Then it started leaking coolant, the starter broke, the lights went out, the struts needed replacing... ugh... such a mess. Took it to the subaru dealership, they took it as a trade in with 70,000 miles on it for the same price I paid for it. Got a subaru. Now has 50,000 miles on it (in two years) and I haven't even had to replace the breaks on it yet. I have noticed though that people like to rear end me cause I can stop in time and they can't.

VW, nice car to drive and comfortable, but when one thing goes wrong, it falls apart.

My next car is going to be new...or MINT.

My 2003 Civic...a CIVIC, one of the most reliable cars in the road just died at 100k miles...out of nowhere, the engine blew.

So whatever, I could get a V-tech engine from a scrapyard for $600 so I went for it.

My car is still getting fixed, AFTER 3 WEEKS, with bills amounting to over $3800. And no, my mechanic is not scamming me...he charges a flat rate for labour and I buy all the parts myself. The car will be out of order until at least next week, as it has to get O2 sensors custom welded to the exhaust as well as ECU reprogramming from Honda, who are swamped with tire swaps.

FML.

that's why you dont buy a car without having your local mechanic take a look at it first. i almost bought a BMW from this shady dealership a few years ago, and when i took it to my mechanic it turns out that the car would have probably killed me within a month of owning it...trust me, 30 bucks for the once over will save you thousands and maybe even your life.

and yah, VW's are expensive, plus after they're about 7 or 8 years old they just start going to shit. ive got a 98 audi (made by VW) and it's just killing me right now. ill spend almost a grand getting it fixed, it'll be good for about 6 months, then it'll need another 1000 worth of fixes...

i figured i would overhaul it one last time so i could wait 6 months to get a new car, so i went last month and spent 700 bucks getting it inspected, having some parts replaced, and getting some new tires. thought for sure it'd be in good shape, then today the headlights went out...went to get it looked at, and i need a new internal headlight switch...im out another 250+ dollars.

fuck that thing, im getting a new car when i graduate in a couple weeks. the problem is, im addicted to the way that fucking car drives. i want to get another audi if i can afford a brand new one. otherwise, i think i might just have to get a new tacoma...they get decent mileage and they last longer than the sun.

yeah plus if the shop your taking it too is hurting for work you might be gettings minorly anal raped by the labor and stuff.

my family owns a shop, but its been doing pretty well lately since no one wants to buy new cars, they are just fixing old ones.

which is doubly good for me so i can get a sick deal from the starving dealership in March when the hyundai genesis coupe arrives at my local stealership =]

Find local VW enthusiasts man. Going to a shop to find out what's wrong with a VW is going to kill you. Lots of local guys have VAGcoms and can figure out what's wrong. Then they can either help you fix it, or point you to a shop who won't overcharge and do a good job.

thats why you dont by foriegn cars..... i mean nothing against you that drive em, but if you look at above posts they are all non american cars......

now im not saying that US cars are the best cause frankly they arnt, but they are made better than any given asian car,

so you can say "well im helping the enviroment by driving a poorly made asian car, but pay $$$$ every year to keep running
-or-

you could get a not quite as fuel efficiant car that isnt foriegn and not pay so much $$$$ to keep it running......

U.S made cars are some of the worst for reliability. and now that the foreign automakers are keeping their parts here in the U.S its actually less costly to get your foreign car repaired here.

I think that Toyota, which is a foriegn car company is super cheap to maintain and they last forever.  We had a Suburban for five years or so but the thing broke down so much, it was always in the shop, we think the shop was fucking with it though.  Just wondering, does anyone have this problem with Chevy too?

Obviously people arn't happy with my recent post on the "My new car story..." thread so i would just like to apologize to any hard feelings that may have been passed on from my monitor to yours.

However, as I stated before american made cars are not invincable, but it looked as if all of the above posts were about foreign cars. Therefore, I made the simple remark of "dont by asian cars", and now I am Uncle Sam.

Thats fine, I can live with people calling me "ignorant" for stating the obvious about the post that all of the cars were foriegn.

My apology for any hard feelings.

It's not that you made us 'unhappy' you actually made me laugh. Asian cars dominate in reliability and fuel efficiency.

funny because only one car, the honda, is from "ASIA" the VW aka Volkswagen is from Germ-any which is in E-urope. And even german cars are known to be fairly reliable albit exspencive to repair if something goes wrong.

just take a look at the chart posted, american cars flop when it comes to reliability. they also flop at fuel ecconomy. We may have invented the car but you'd be a fool to reccomend buyingan american made  car now, they are shit.

yeah but its a 2003 with 195000 miles on a GAS motor...I want to sell it to someone who is knowing of the problems it has and can afford to fix them, cause the problems it has are going to start to domino
