Obama vs. Hand Gun Sales(read)!

Hey everyone, my dad and i were at dinner tonight, and we were talkin about the election.
well he is friends with a guy that owns a gun store, and he talked to the guy just the other day.
The owner of the store has told my dad that ever since Obama was elected, hand gun sales have raised 48%, becuase people feel he will take away the right, or that the US will fall into epic turmoil, Anarchy.

Let me know what you think.

someone can go out with a pistol and kill a some people if they want, but they WILL get stopped fast..

but if they shoot a missile...? lots of casualties..........people deserve to have guns, thats where i draw the line.

england's gun laws are so strict, certain firearms-related events in the olympics would be illegal on their soil.  how the hell are they going to host the 2012 olympics?  change their laws just for the games?  silly.

you never know, it could cost you your life in some situation if its you or the other guy. i dont carry a gun but i think that if someone wants to its their right to choose

in my opinion it doesnt work
think about all the gang shootinggs in the past year over 300 in chicago my hometown
and the guns go through an illegal chain of people with the gang member on one end and some civilian buying guns in places like kentucky and ohio on the other

Number of stabbings? or stabbing deaths. Because im willing to bet that a LOT less people die from stabbings than GSWs. And so, then carry around a knife to defend yourself. Its a hell of a harder to kill the wrong person with a knife. Eliminates the "innocent bystander"

So if fear of having your face blown off is just a "SMALL" deterrent it would actually make more sense to rob someone in a rural area.

Many people I know never lock their doors, and all live in very rural areas. Plus, no more than 500 yards from any house and you're in the woods, the best hiding place of all. Furthermore, no one is going to see you snooping around someone's house because there aren't that many people who can see your house. Plus, no one has a security system in the country, so the cops won't even be notified until after the deed. Even if the cops were notified, and in my town especially, it would take them at least 20 minutes to get there. (My town has no police force so the neighboring town's police have no jurisdiction so the only cops that would have any power are sheriffs and state cops) In fact, the only thing deterring a robber in the country is the prospect of not having a face left after opening the door. And if that happened at my house you can trust me they would get shot.

If I'm a robber and I see a car or truck in someone's driveway with a gun rack, I'm not going to go into their house, that's just common sense.

You say that robbers have many homes to choose from in the city, but that's not a reason to steal. The reason to steal is the person having money and a pretty good chance you're not going to get shot.

it might also have to do with how difficult it is to GET to more rural areas. also, why rob farmers in rural areas, when you can rob people in the city that you have much easier access to. it has nothing to do with the guns, and everything to do with WHO has the possessions of value, and how easy they are to access.

you go into store, purchase gun,
you go outside
you pull out gun...
does gun shoot itslef?
no, YOU phisically pull the trigger, activating a system, same as a computer mouse...

by itself, a gun is the same as a computer mouse,
once it enters your hands, then you are controlling what happens

banning guns will do absolutely nothing...there will just be more under the table sales, and traffiking

Banning firearms is just going to take guns out of the hands of responsible owners and put them in the hands of bad people and create a huge black market. Do you really think that if a ban goes into place some blood's gunna be like "sheit, gotta take this strap to tha 5-0 department now". Fuck no there gunna keep and remain the only type of poeple WITH guns.

they will and are suppressing our freedom. whatever, the declaration gives us guns for the government becomes a monster. im not saying it will for sure happen under obama, but eventually in the future it will.. he's our president elect. cool. i dont quite see your point there.

first of all what part of ENGLAND do you not understand. they have less gun deaths, period. they banned guns. its not some sort of anarchy there with criminals running around.

also gun violence is clearly a problem. so should we ban stupid people? since they pull the trigger? i think not

and is there no crime in the country? no. theres less people, therefore less crime. criminals for the most part live in the city. generally if your committing robbery, you arent exactly rolling a dough, its a way to survive. so do you think that the criminal is gonna drive out to bumble fuck to steal shit? i think not.


there are a hundred different reasons why theres less crime in the country than the city, none of it has to do with the fact that they have guns.

yup, i doubt it will happen under obama, but sometime, it WILL happen, could be hundreds of years from now, could be 20, could be 2. but sometime, our government will have too much power, and become too abusive. and we will need to take them out.
this is why slowly taking away our rights for guns scares me, because our government keeps gradually taking away rights, and when we get to a point where they have gone too far, the citizens have to do something about it. and if they take away guns, we have virtually no power. so our right to own guns really is one of the most important rights we can have, and when people like obama are trying to slowly take that away, its pretty scarry.

its not like we can really complain, we have it better than 99% of the rest of the world. we could be all be starving in africa or something. but thats no reason to let our government take control of us, just because other countries are fucked up and corrupt, doesnt mean that ours should.

can you honestly say that killing someone with a gun is the same as killing someone with a knife?
Its a lot easier to kill someone with a gun than anything else.

Personally, I just think that there should be very tight restrictions on everything except hunting rifles. I understand that most people use guns for recreation, but is there really anything that you need need a handgun or semiautomatic for?

yes...sport shooting and home protection.  you can't safely defend a home with a hunting rifle...the rounds are too powerful.

the Supreme Court of the United States just declared in HELLER V. WASHINGTON DC:

HANDGUNS ARE LEGITIMATE IMPLEMENTS OF SELF DEFENSE
    BANS ON HANDGUNS ARE UNCONSTITUTIONAL

THE US CONSTITUTIONAL GRANTS 'The people' (interpreted as the populace) A RIGHT TO KEEP A BEAR ARMS.   This has been interpreted as a right to own fire arms for self defense, and that laws that undermine the ability to do so are unconstitutional.

the following are now illegal:

   Bans on Handguns in Cities/Towns (both DC and Newark have been denied their on the books bans)
   
    Requirements that Weapons be:
                   Unloaded
                   Trigger Locked
                   Disassembled
                         Or any other requirement of possession that undermines a weapon's utility for use in self defense.

BTW : Obama is on record from the campaign trail (In Penn.) stating he will not try and ban handguns.

SUCK IT YOU DO-GOODER LIBERALS, try and take our guns now.

And you Anti-gun people need to learn a thing or two about illicit weapons markets.

Making guns illegal makes smuggling them a lot more profitable.

The "REAL IRA" has made a TON of money smuggling weapons into the UK, and gun crime is skyrocketing (despite their draconian laws)

lets see now...... if we law abiding citizens (for the most part) are forced to give our guns away, what about the bad guys who already dont care about breaking the law.... are they just going to give up their guns to???? no they will just be less afraid to go in to some law abiding guys house and rob him because there is a 99.999999% chance that the guy (law abiding) has no gun cause the government banned em...... im guessing robberies, burglaries, ect. will sky rocket if guns are out lawed......

I think you guys seriously need to look at your laws. I love guns. I will say it. I have a semi-auto 30 odd 6, and a 12 guage. I love going to private ranges and using weapons. I will say this.......private citizens schould not own hand guns. There are weapons that average people schould own, and weapons that schould not be available to the public.

Protection? Thats a stupid argument.  If someone enters my house, i tell you my 12 has more then enough stopping power, and fear factor to make anybody run off.  You don't need a hand weapon in public. Tasers, and spray do just as well a job at stopping a defender. Plus do you think you ( who have only fired weapons in a private range) can kill a human on the street.

Yes I understand the value of using them for sport......but why do you have to OWN these weapons. Why not just use them at the range? Hand weapons were made for trained professtionals ( not provate citizens), and there is NO reason to make them harder to get.

except the only BIG Difference is a mouse doesn't kill people. Also all you people arguing its a constitutional right thats true in the context of the revolutionary war. I dont see how we have to defend ourselves from quartered soldiers in our modern society. cause that's really what that was for. It doesnt apply, The self defense myth is bullshit too. Now I personally dont have a problem with rifles for hunting but handguns and automatic weapons have no purpose but to kill other humans. when i was 11 - 14 i was actually mugged FIVE TIMES

And i live in a decent neighborhood in a "low crime" city

just because you've been lucky enough to not need a weapon for your own self defense, doesn't mean that its not a real need.

a neighborhood of proficient gun owners is definitely both a deterrent, and an effective means of defense.

Legal gun ownership is not the problem, its disaffected youth, and a pervasive Gang Culture with access to illicitly trafficked weapons that causes gun crime.

why don't we fully enforce current laws prior to making new laws?


federal firearms laws already make it illegal for the following people to possess, receive, ship, or transport firearms or ammunition:

  • Those convicted of crimes punishable by imprisonment for over one year, except state misdemeanors punishable by two years or less.
  • Fugitives from justice.
  • Unlawful users of certain depressant, narcotic, or stimulant drugs.
  • Those adjudicated as mental defectives or incompetents or those committed to any mental institution.
  • Illegal aliens.
  • Citizens who have renounced their citizenship.
  • Those persons dishonorably discharged from the Armed Forces.
  • Persons less than 18 years of age for the purchase of a shotgun or rifle.
  • Persons less than 21 years of age for the purchase of a firearm that is other than a shotgun or rifle.
  • Persons subject to a court order that restrains such persons from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner.
  • Persons convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.

OR if you are merely under indictment for a crime punishable by imprisonment for more than one year, you are thus ineligible to receive, transport, or ship any firearm or ammunition.


that merely applies to the commonplace firearms that you can purchase at a normal legal gun store. 


all the hype firearms that you hear about (NFA weapons) or use in your video games or T.I. keeps in his basement already require a special license.  this includes: full-auto firearms, firearms with a silencer affixed, short barreled shotguns (under 18" barrel), short barreled rifles (under 16" barrel), and destructive devices.

is sport shooting like shooting skeet? because I don't understand why you wouldnt use a hunting rifle for shooting skeet.

Also, I'm not sure what you mean when you say a hunting rifle is "too powerful" to defend your home with. In any case, I did not say there should be an all-out ban on hand guns, I just think they should be very hard to get.

because hunting rifles are usually bolt action and don't offer variations in ammo such a buck shot.

you would have to be super fast and a ridiculous shot to take down multiple disks, almost inhuman.

hence, why shotguns are typically used.

Well, i guess I'm just trying to say guns that aren't used for recreation should have strict restrictions on them.

And by recreation I don't mean taking your Desert Eagle and M16 down to the shooting range; I mean legitimate sports or hunting.

It's crazy that you guys actually want government bans on things, in a country that was founded on individual freedoms it means you're not responsible for someone else's poor decisions. I realize you might be a little scared, that's fine if you don't feel like your up to living in a country with so many personal freedoms; The world has plenty of other places that will restrict what you and your neighbors do. Just don't fuck it up for the rest of us.

yup exactly. there are plenty of awesome countries out there where your entire life can be completely controlled, if you dont like the idea of freedom, there are plenty of corrupt as fuck countries out there for you to enjoy.

but seriously, look at all the countries as a whole, the more restrictive they are, and the less freedom citizens have, the more fucked up they are, yeah sweet you wont have as many random psycho's with guns killing people, you will have the entire government with armies doing that!! sounds awesome right?
